Default Borg Warner diffs same in 6 and 8?

Is the diff the same model in both the v6 and v8s in VP commodores?
Not the ratio, but the actual diff setup itself..
    Cheers.

both are the same. borgwarner 78, 28 spline axles, 3.08:1 ratio. the only difference will be that some have the performance diffs which are the same except they have an LSD center. there are some VP's that have IRS. they use the same diff gears i believe but the diff centers have a different offset and can't be used in the trailing arm setup (solid diff)

There's one more subtly different type of diff, most V8's that weren't equipped with an LSD got a diff with a "high performance" tag on it. All this means is that it has shot peened (case hardened) gears. Externally, exactly the same diff though.

Sweet, no worries. Trying to pick up a live axle one for my Torana rear end. Had enough of blowing up the Bang-Go's rofl.

No idea. Not sure why they bothered anyway, the old borgie seems to be a fairly tough nut to crack in standard form.

Only car to have shot peened gears was the VN Group A.

Says who? And if this is the case, care to explain the difference between a standard V6 diff and all the non LSD V8 diffs out there with high performance tags on them?

Yeah according to everything i've read the VN V8 diffs had 'Shot peened internals' which is why I asked whether it was just the gears or not.

V6 and V8 diffs are the same, non LSD ones had a 'high performance' tag fitted.
BW78 - Fitted in all VN to VS live axle commodores. All run a 4 pinion center and 28 spline axles. The SV5000 and VN Group A used the VL housing to allow them to fit wider wheels, the Group A having shot peened gears.
BTR76 - Fitted in all VP to VX (VT and VX only on V6 models) IRS commodores. Same as the BW78, all had 4 pinion centers and 28 spline axles. All V8 models had shot peened gear sets.

Thats taken from the holden manuals I have (I typed it up in my words tho). So you are some what correct, but since this is the VN/VP section and 90% of all those models have a live axle rear.........

Prob is higher, I just used 90% as an example. SV5000 had 3.08:1 The Group A had 3.45:1 due to its 6 speed gearbox.

So by what you're saying, VN V6 non LSD diffs should have a high performance tag as well. Can anyone verify that? I'd go out into the carpark and find a VN to check, but
    a) It'd look really dodgy.
    b) I have a lecture now.
