I'm assuming it's an original wheel as aftermarket wheels on a boss kit are dead easy. Anyway there are a few ways. Surest one is to get yourself a steering wheel puller from supercrap. Second is to loosen off that big nut but don't remove it entirely, then pull on the wheel while wiggling it from side to side until it gives way and slams against the nut, hopefully not putting you on your arse in the process. Use of a hammer is not reccomended due to the collapsible steering column being something you don't want to damage, but if you're careful then apparently it's viable if you're too cheap to buy a puller.

Ummmm, how does a puller work? We made up a little doodad that bolted onto the two 1/4" holes and tried using a 3rd larger bolt in the middle to push it out...... all that did was bend the steel plate (the plate was 1/4" :O:O).

Haven't managed to get it to move even 1mm mate... It's really starting to **** me.

I'm thinking perhaps its rusted onto the steering column or something

Sounds like you made a decent attempt at a backyard style puller. If it didn't work, then use thicker plate next time. Also probably a silly question, but you have removed the centre nut from the wheel yes? If you suspect corrosion, soak the bugger in WD40 for a while, should loosen it up a bit.

Yeah, centre nut went off first

-sigh- well, so long as there is no hidden special insiders only trick I guess I shall have to look for a non-empty can of WD40 lol. (it gets used really fast around here and there are no stores open atm :S)

Here is a sure fire method that I have used. Sit in the drivers seat. Remove the retaining nut. Make fists with both hands and bang the wheel fast and hard on either side at 3 and 9 o'clock. This will jar the wheel loose and it should then come off easily. Bang it with the side of your fist, not a front on punch. Like you are banging a table. Hit it alternatively, eg, left right left right, not both hands at the same time.

dont remove the nut completely, or when the wheel comes off it will go straight into your face

Just buy a proper steering wheel puller, like $8 and you wont regret it.

WD40 has never helped me remove a steering wheel or anything for that matter. I have used it everytime something has been stuck, but its never gotten me any further. Im starting to think its all lies.

go to Repco and get a pulley puller for timing kits, thats what i used and it worked good. made by power built.

    Harmonic Balancer Puller

Pulls harmonic balancers, steering wheels, flywheels, and gears and pulleys with tapped holes
Puller yoke has 4 slots for 2 or 3 hole applications
    Swiveling center tip prevents damage
    Includes the following side bolts (3) 5/16" - 18 x 2", (3) 3/8" – 24 x 2", (3) M10 - 1.5 x 50mm, (3) M8 - 1.25 x 80mm, (2) 3/8" - 16 x 4"
Storage case complete with hanger hole

Yeah, a three claw harmonic balancer puller will teach that bastard steering wheel a lesson it wont soon forget. Probably a little bit of overkill though.

its not a bad tool to have lying around in your tool box though, may come it very useful one day. if you use it once or twice its paid for itself. (money saved on mechanics)

Using the two fisted method, the wheel cannot come off and smash you in the face or any where else because it loosens it so you don't need to use any force.

Ok, looks like I'll be buying a removal kit thingy....

Just for the record the drivers seat isn't actually in the car atm (nor are any of the other seats incidently.... or the dash... or the carpet...)

it would be doable, just dropt the seeting coloumb.... or even, detach the rack from the coloumb and take the whole thing out!

Haha, yeah, thats pretty much what we did

Was trying to get the dash out yesterday and the steering wheel was the only issue in the way :S Seriously considered taking the angle grinder to it lol (despite knowing that would be incredibly stupid).

Eventually just undid a bracket or something that was holding the steering column in place and pulled the dash out over it.

-sigh- still need to get the wheel off though, I wanna put a new one on :S

Installing a new alarm/immobolisor And yeah, quite possibly a handful of strategically placed kill switches that may or may not be under the dash

That being said the main alarm module is going in under the dash as far up and as high up as possible so no-one can get to it

but anyway, alarm installation and kill switches is for another thread

or you can just put the alarm module in the drivers side kick panel

Put the alarm control box where the front speakers are in the dash
no one will ever be able to find it or get it out...

I got my steering wheel off using the puller shown above, destroyed two cheap steering wheel pullers from repco. The bloody thing would not come off.
    I love my VN

Yeah... Could put the module elsewhere... But once it's in it won't be moving... And I'm painting the dash so...
