    Default Reco Engine + Tranny

How much would I be looking at to get an engine and tranny reconditioned?

Mine are in good condition but I'm still kinda wary about it has done a fair bit of work... (a bit over 200 000, not entirely sure as the cluster has been swapped out a coupla times in its life....)

i recommend allans automatics in cairns...they serviced my auto a couple months ago and done a good job for a good price...not sure if they do engines as well...they might...

MY RIDE: '01 VX S Sedan with absolutely nothing done to it besides having the back muffler removed...and i got a 3 litre turbo diesel Rodeo...Single Cab, with all the bull-bars, spotlights, toolboxes and tradesmans gear on it that i need...

I looked at recon engines for mine and it was around the $2.5 - $3k mark. Not sure on the 'box though.

That was for a complete recon engine. Just found a place here in Vic that will sell me and fit an S1 VN engine for $550!

You can DIY recon gearbox from a wrecker costing about $600.
I got my fully reconditioned with stage2 quickshift kit done properly at Sunstate Gearbox and Diff in Maroochydore for $1500, with 1yrs warrenty.(i was quoted $2000-$2500 at all other gearbox workshops)
Unless you know what your doing i would pay the $$$$.
Once a Mercedes is up to cruising speed it lopes along easily and is happy sitting on 180+ km/h all day. Please check the speed limits in your area before attempting this…

The tranny would be a worry after 200k, but the engine, if serviced and not thrashed will last you probably another 200k!!!

A friends ex-cabbie went 625k, he got it reconditioned because it had lost some power.

I'm looking at perhaps getting the engine supercharged (just using something like the CRS kit starting with the 3psi and perhaps building it up to more later on...) so was thinking getting it reconditioned would be a good idea?

I have no idea how the engine would stand up to boost. Would a 200k one be able to take 3psi or more without a worry? It hasn't had any other work done to it either. Just a plain old original spec S1 Buick.

Ok, so the transmission should really be looked at? How long do they usually go for without problems? If I get the tranny serviced will/should they also check for anything that could be getting worn and be in need of fixing?
