hi just recently, im pretty sure it started happening after my mate ran up a gutter when driving my car but not 100% sure, my wheel squeaks "front left". It is as if the break caliper has moved too close to the metal the brakes grip onto to slow the car down e.g... taking off... "squeak... squeak.. squeak. squeak squeaksqueaksqueak".. but atm due to either my brakes just have worn out or they have worn out because of constantly rubbing on the steel, all it is now is that very bad steal on steel noise. I am getting a mate to put new brake pads on tomorrow after work, but would anyone have any idea of how to fix the squeaking "rubbing of the caliper onto the steal"? since i do not want to wear out these ridicoulously fast also../get rid of the noise. thanks
Sounds like what you said. The Brake pads are low and you are getting metal on metal noise. or maybe a wheel bearing will do this. take the wheel off and the caliper and spin the hub and see if it sounds like the Squeaking noise u described to us.
it could also be a stuck caliper or slides. this is where the caliper piston doesn't return probperly after letting the brakes off causing a sqweek. it's a simple fix by overhauling the caliper. i'd certainly by checking worn pads and wheel bearing as mentioned above also

if you was getting metal to metal, you will have a grinding noise, the squeaking noise could be anything from glazed disc rotors,or the anti squeal goo on back of pads have rubbed off. or if your car was ran up a gutter, you may have damaged the sway bar bushes, control arm bushes,etc,etc...just depends how hard the car hit gutter..
but the way you are describing things, your pads may be getting low,you will obviously have to end up taking the front wheels off to take a look see,but a good indicator of worn pads is,just look at brake fluid level,if it's down, and you know there is no fluid leaks, pads are highly likely at the replacement stage...
