Hey all just wondering if anyone here has a VN with manual steering? I have to replace the rack in the SS and in the intrest of tidying the bay up am seriously considering going to manual steering, but am worried about a heavy VN with heavy 19's...........
Mate has a VL with 19's and manual steer and its pretty good, just not sure about the VN.

If u were up here i could show ya how heavy steering is on mine when the BCM stuffs up n stops boost on steering.
Just think of tryin to drive witha steering wheel that about the size of a bosskit maybe a bit bigger, there heavy,
In mine u cant park with one hand, need 2 to turn enuff, thats with 15's.
Ive driven a HT with manual and 15's, a LX with manual and 15's and a VL with manual and 19's so im thinking about it......
Worst case I swap back and loose a few $$$.........
Also your's wouldn't be the same as manaul. When that happens you get hydraulic lock basically, so its harder to steer then manual would be.

Aah manual steering wouldn't be too bad. The only issues you would encounter, would be when the car gets sideways and you have to correct. It's going to be a lot harder to point the wheel in the desired direction, with very little time to react, if you don't have power steering. Easy to let the car lead you in the wrong direction.
Aside from that, manual steering shouldn't be an issue at all on a car of that size.

I didnt even know there was such a thing as a manual steering rack for vn's. I've heard of people using vl manual racks.
Also manual steering is pretty good. My vh was easy to to drive/park but i only had 15x215's didnt have any trouble handling it sideways most of the time you could flick it out let go of the wheel and itll sort itself out.
Wider tyres make it harder to turn when parking but with a little accelerator its easy
maybe also consider changing the sway bar link pin mounts from the strut to the lower control arm so there is less load on the steering also (same as the early model commodores)
