hey all, ok a few qu's, im still waiting to swap over my VP motor but thort i would check a few things to help decide, mine is a 93 VP S2 auto. i have a few options and wanted to know what would work...
will a VP S2 engine fit without any major mods if it was out of a manual, i was told once that VS's have a different backing plate, is this the same with VP's.
or will a 93 VR engine fit and work, iv seen one or two new sensors on the VR but i thort i could leave em off maybe
orr last option is a VN S2 engine, iv been told this would work but its not the easiest option for me cos the motor needs a new harmonic balancer b4 it can go in.
Cheers![]()
Any motor(V6 - A V8 wont obviosuly) from a SII VN - VR SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII will fit, VS wont fit without mods, the others will go in without dramas.

so that VP manual motor will fit with no changes?? i thort at least one of these would be slightly different somehow because i put a VR s2 harmonic balancer on VN s2 motor and it didnt work at all, would not start so i figured the motors are different in somewayand they all run different g/boxes...but if you say it will work....lol
and also the VR's have a sensor right near the water pump and the VP doesnt so wont have a plug for it, so should it still run ok with this sensor not being hooked up?...i guess it just makes is run a bit smoother if the wiring harness and ecu could sensor it just hey. i just dont want to have to put one motor in then pull it out again
and one other thing, the VR's dont run a cable kickdown so can you still just hook that cable from the g/box onto the throttle body?
just makes sure the manual flywheel still isnt on it and youll be fine....
ive never heard of the harmonic balancer issue so i cant tell you about that...
as for the kickdown, just pull the **** off the Vp motor...
There the same engine, VNSII - VR same engine...

Pretty much all been covered. VNS1 != VNS2 = VPS1&2 = VR != VS.
There were silly little changes between compatible motors, like changing the position of the sump dipstick from VP - VR... but if you're swapping the entire motor, stuff like that won't have any impact. All bolt-ons are identical.

id go for the vr there the last off its kind (which means they better the vn and vp) and they got no ecoteck bull sh;t so they go harder
Theres no difference in the motors from vn s2 - vr . The difference in vr is in engine management and a electronically controlled gearbox
I don't know about thatI've known a few VRs with low kays that play up on a daily basis, while my VP hasn't skipped a beat since I bought it. Pretty much a matter of luck, and how well you look after them. Even seen some VNS1 motors going hard after 400,000+. I think a VP motor would be a little cheaper, being an older model too - wouldn't it?

thats what im worried about, if i end up with a plug with no socket for a sensor the car wont run.
does anybody else know what else i might have to keep in mind ie the manual flywheel staying off the auto was a good one to know. i must sound like such a noob but iv done this b4 with a VR and i was told "yeh no problems just put in a VR S2 engine and g/box into ur S1 VR....next thing i know car wouldnt start and had to mod a few things which i kinda dont wanna have to do again
thanks anyway for ur help
btw: im not changing the g/box this time so it might make a difference eh
ok as an update i ended up fitting a VNs2 which looked like an exact match with my VP motor even the harmonic balancer was the same. it went in perfectly, the only difference was the starter motor but it didnt make much difference.
i was told that if i wanted to fit a VR into it i woulda had to have swapped the wireing harness aswell and then the computer aswel so i just went with something that was an exact match...well close enuf not being able to get hold of a VP engine for cheap...anywayz all is good now
i took a VP motor and put it in my vn no hastles, not hard to change really,
for the manual i think you need to change the trail shaft, and they'res a brace for the manual
