Default engine clunk and code 15...

ok well i fixed my overheating problem by putting in a new thermostat (damn series 1's!) and the car runs exactly like before, responds the same BUT i have a loud clunking noise in the top end of my engine now? it still there when i rev higher and gets quicker with the revs.....
so does anybody have an idea of why its doing this? and how it happened?
i also done the self diagnostic test and it came up with a code 15... so i researched it and it said

Coolant sensor indicated a temperature below -30C for 3 seconds
when MAT > - 13 or engine running over 1 minute. Probably open
    circuit

BUT my temp guage got upto the 2nd line (lvl 1 cluster) so i dont think it has a problem with the temperature of the engine?

so in english, what do i need to replace? its obvious a sensor has **** itself but what one(maybe MAT?)? and how do i replace it? easy? hard?

    thanks in advance

The coolant temp sensor is dead. It means that the temp sensor read a low temperature when the air temp was higher or the engine was running for 1 minute.

About 30 bucks from repco and they are a bit of a pain to get to behind the inlet manifold on the drivers side but only took about 20-30 min when I did mine. Just make sure you get the one for the computer not the guage. The computer temp sensor has the same plug connection on it as a fuel injector and the plug is made of blue plastic.

you might have disturbed the wires to the coolant sensor and mat sensor which are by the thermostat housing open circuit could be dead sensor or broken wire or come unplugged

i hope that rattles not part of the manifold air temp sensor bouncing round on top of a piston or in a valve port maybe check that too while your there probably not but stranger things have happened

well it sounds like its coming from the manifold to be honest... but the performance of the car isnt affected at all?

    that sound right?

Check all the exhaust studs and make sure none have broken or come loose. It sounds like you have a manifold leak.
