Angry Advice HELP please : Radiator got crack how much for new one ?

Im not to happy at moment, I just did full service on my car

oilfilter, oil , flushed radiator .. new coolant etc ..

today I did bit of stop start driving as I was lost anyway the temp guage hit halfway which its done many times and fan kicks in and all is well.Today same thing happened but i saw steam coming from bonnet and could smell coolant .. so had a look anyway on left side of engine where the hose comes into radiator just underneath that it was pissing out hot coolant .. and the cracks like 1 inch long.it only leaks when cars very hot .. otherwise it dont leak.

Im not gonna get it welded or patched as the radiators like 13 years old and knowing my luck would just crack somewhere else if i got it patched up.

How much would be fare price for a complete new radiator and also the cars a series 1 so there is a big bottle that u fill up, is it expensive or not worth it to get a normal radiator with normal cap like most people have ?? or should i just get the same one?

Another question also my timing covers been leaking little drops coolant for years like a drop here and there when cars cooling down. Can I have timing cover gasket replaced without having to change engine oil as I just put new lot in ? As i was thinking might as well get mechanic to fix everthing.

I love my VN its 90 model with 195,000kms on it and oil changes every 5000kms etc its been treated like a baby all its life and im starting to get the ****s with her.

Never had any major engine work only water pumps etc nothing to bad ..

    heres photos..

Im sorry for going on about it but we havent been having much luck with cars lately as my dads newish van just **** itself as well needed new radiator as was cracked and new waterpump and new carbie and im starting to think im gonna buy a mountain bike and start peddling everywhere.

I just need to know is it worth throwing $$$ at her ..

Yes, I bought a new one from a radiator repair shop in Sydney for about $140 last week. Holden was asking something like $460.

My radiator cracked in exactly the same place as yours. VP 1992 model, 160Ks.

Swapping the radiator out was quite easy, only an hour or so including flushing the engine.

I took the old radiator apart and it was amazing how much sludge there was at the bottom of the driver's side (see attached photo). This explains my overheating problem. If only I had removed the radiator to give it a good flush in the past, it probably would not have overheated.

i took to radiator place ... getting a complete new one for $305 fitted...

    Another place wanted $400

the radiator was 13+ years old so was bound to happen....

next thing to get fixed is new timing cover gasket but im leaving that for another day or until it finally ****s itself and starts pissing out.

Without commenting on the means of repair, generally a V6 radiator cracking after repair or service work will be due to the fan shroud being leant on during said repair or service work.

    Radiator = $140 + postage
    Coolant 10ltrs = $20(cheap homebrand stuff)

So for around 200 mark, maybe $180ish You could ahve done it yourslef.

Its really not a hard job. There isnt actually any bolts whihc hold the radiotor in, there quick release clips!
