Default Is my VN a Mongrel

The 91 5.0L VN is made up of lots af bits from other cars.

Today it's getting a cheap open wheeler diff fitted and starter motor.

But it has Statesman loom and L3 cluster. Auto from another car. Calais hood lining and inside lights. VP SS dash tag. Memcal from Ebay and retuned. ECU from wreckers. all the brakes and rims form other car. Extractors and red back exhaust. VS inside window rubbers and VN LE black outside window rubbers. Stato electric aerial. After market leaky Calais tail lights. Statesman grab handles in the back. Calais map pickets on the front doors. Calais boot carpet. VS CAI and air box top. Calais Cruise control modual. Headlight glass from another car and 1 indicator lens. VP Calais steering wheel painted SS black. Stato cliamte control.

Is it a mongral or what.

Nah, it'd be a mongrel if you'd been chucking in bits from other manufacturers. As it is, it's just a bit confused as to it's series and trim level. Could always chuck on VR door pods, VT brakes, VX front bar etc. etc, until you had a bit from every series commodore from VN on. Or does that just seem like a really weird idea?
Beau Duke: Man, I'm never gonna get outta this car again. I'm gonna live in it, I'm gonna eat in it and I'm gonna make sweet love to it!
Luke Duke: You mean you're gonna make sweet love IN it.
Beau Duke: Oh no, I'm gonna have sex with it.

Only Hoden gear going in so I'm safe for now!

I was just thinking the other day What'd I let this car turn into.

For an 91 5.0L VN Executive Commodore - it was not stock anymore.

Also has Calais Bumpers front and back & Calais grill.

Engine has VR/VS 185 badges on the covers.

    Bits to put in.

Centre console rear 12v cig socket and floor lights. Single spinner diff.

LSD diff to be rebuilt later. VT brakes sounds like a good option too.

Painted gutter moldings gloss black. The Calais bumpers only have a black strip and bumper painted silver. It sorta matches with the black Exec moldings on the doors. Car is Safire Blue.

Also has custom rust in the boot (spare tyre area) covered with some galve tin.

Also has rust around back window. It's having ongoing treatment for it now before the rubber is stuck in and hide the cancer.

    Now for the bad point!

Has a squeak in the drivers door. Starting to poo me off.
Any more oil on the door and it'll be like a slippery fish.

Other that the squeak - the cars great.

seeen one like that before, it made me shudder

but i saw a VP yesterday thgat was raised i asked the driver why and he said "LOOK AT ME, IT SCRAPES WHEN I HAVE ANYONE ELSE IN THE CAR" (large bloke) later saw it looking like it was on super lows with 4 large blokes in it :P funny stuff

Not a mongrel at all, my car is a VN/VP/VR/VS bitza, fortunately a lot of parts can interchange between the models and that means sourcing cheap parts is much easier

Being an early October 89 model mines one of those weird 'transition' models that had some of the series 1 VN parts on it and some of the late October 89 upgraded/changed bits on it

Anything I've had to upgrade I've usually updated to later model spec, same price at the local wreckers and usually in a lot better condition

At the time of purchase a good VN V8 was selling for 5-6K. I got this one for 3,500 with books for 122,000kms. Had hit a gutter and bent a few thing.

Since the gearbox is sitting in the boot. Apparently its a vital link in the driveline for getting forward propulsion.
Just payed for the new one, so stay tuned to my posts, and it will reveal all (by next week hopefully)

I'm very strict on calling a car original. It has to be 100% stock, the only things i'll let you get away with a different tyres than from factory, but it has to have the original wheels to be standard

Also thought i'd let you know, the wheels you have on, there are 2 types of them, one is a very cheap copy that split and crack, and if you have them, i recommend throwing them in the bin, otherwise we wont have a great example of a VP GTS anymore.

Now that I've stopped looking with stars in my eyes the SS Dash Tag looks to be a VS one.

I've not got a photo of it now, but looks like this in the photo.
