hi all
i was in the process of putting together a "HOW TO INSTALL TEMP GAUGE" in a VN
but i'm having an issue with teh finished product
i had the car run warm to about half way on stock temp gauge, installed the new gauge which said around 80° C
but when i turn on head lights, brake, use wipers, anything electric,
the temp gauge moves higher and higher
i've checked the wiring, and the grounding
what could be wrong?
99% certain you have an earthing problem somewhere

i'v grounded it in a few different places and still getting this
but will try again
i was thinking more of an interference issue, possibly from the alternator?
its an earthing problem, where abouts are you earthing it ?
it may not be an earth problem, its gonna need power as well, where have you run the power cable from and where have you run the temp snesor wire from?
its likely youve got interfearence from all the other devices... did you just jack into the acc loom?
Did you run a proper relay with standalone + wire?

interesting.....
power runs from the ignition wiring (when you turn your key and everything lights up, just before the car starts)
what do you mean by relay and standalone wiring?
i've doing the same thing i did for the oil pressure gauge and it itsn't affected by the other electrics....![]()
You run a wire, appropriate guage from your battery to a fuse(no more than 30cm) then that wires runs into your cabin.
You take the ignition wire, run a wire from that to a relay, then you run the guage off the relay, no soley off the ignition wire, wil provide you with 2 earth points as well insted of the one.

thanks azk
seems alot more complicated than i first thought...is this how you ran yours?
anywhere i can go for more details? (ie. wire gauge, relay wiring, etc) ?
thanks![]()
hangon, what sender have you used?.. you shouldnt have to run a new wire from the battery and use a relay if its done properly.
Power is measured in DECIBEL
i used the sender provided
it works, just that all electris are messing with he gauge so may need rewiring....

you should always use a relay when adding to your current elctronics.
If he uses a relay with 2 good eath points then he wont have an issue.
What i do, and have done with all my cars so far, is run a wire from my battery(usually 4 - 8guage), fuse it with a large breaker fuse or circut breaker then run it into my cabin ot a distributiuon block near my fuses.
Then, whenevr i need to add an additional piece of equiptment, lights, guages, screens etc. i use relays which are powered off that solid line.
How a relay works is you have 4 pins, one is earth, one is trigger one is constant and one is output.
How it works is, the trigger wire connects the constant power wire to output line. So your only using the trigger wire(in your case ign wire) to power a relay(small amountof current) and the relay connects your device to a more stable power supply.
It makes for a cleaner source of power, no strain on exsisting elctronics and as the realy needs and earth and your device needs and earth, thats now 2 earths insted of just the one. Just make them good.
From memory, pin 30's Constsant, 87's Trigger, 85's Earth and 86's trigger... or something to that effect. There should be a guide in the audio section, if not PM Daron or Garfa, they should know also.
