Default Whats the diff between the diffs VN V6 V8

Can any of you well versed pro's out there tell me if there is a difference between the VN V6 diffs and the V8 diffs. Housings, axles etc. Are they all interchangable? Eg. Scored a VN V8 LSD and want to fit it into my supercharged V6. Standard V6 VN 3.08 non slippery. Can i just change the guts or does the whole housing have to be changed is the bottom line. Thanks in advance to all that can help.

they are dimensionally identical, and the V8 has shot peened gears which means it can take more abuse than a V6 one, it would be easier to change the whole diff, rather than the center because you need to know what you are doing and have the right tools to set a new center up in a different housing.

all interchangable. same axles, diff housings etc. sometimes V8's had high performance gears fitted which basically means they were shot peened to handle higher power outputs butthey are physically the same as all the other BW 78 diffs.

just put the LSD center into your diff but it pays to have it done by someone who can do it properly. ifyour keen to do it yourself you could always just swap the entire diff over under your car also

A few people, including our own beloved Airstrike have been saying that only group A diffs were shotpeened. Asked a few V6 owners to check and see if their diffs had the high performance tags like all the single spinner V8 diffs I've seen and they refused to help out. So anyway, buggrem, way I see it, it makes no real difference anyway. They're the same ratio, prone to a bit of clunk when they get old and will cope with a fair bit of punishment. What more do ya want?

There is no high performance tags on the V6 diffs, Airstrike is on drugs but true it makes no difference, who ever broke the main gears anyway. I've never heard of it you would want a pretty mean commodore to pull that trick

Meh, I just wish he'd learn to share. Anyway, as for breaking the damn things, I've got a VN 5L here waiting for a rebuild, my goal is to break something driveline related once it's done. Who knows, might be crown wheel.
