I would like to upgrade the brakes on my VN S1 V6.
Presently I have the standard master + booster.
How would I go about fitting up VT spec brakes? What would I need? I know I would need a 1" master, calipers and rotors but what else is required?
What do you need to fit up a VT rotor to a VN? Also, does anyone know of anywhere that sells complete kits around FNQ?
the rotors need a hub adaptor, which from what i've heard means you need a engineers cert (in vic at least).
also i think you'll need new lines. stacks of kits on ebay. not genuine VT, but VT spec.
Do a search, there's an absolute ****load of information on the VT upgrade, including a thread that should be in the first few pages of this section.

I do the RDA upgrade kit.
Rotors, hubs, new calipers, pads, longer braided lines and fluid. $750 plus shipping.
A full kit for the brake conversion, without the 1" master cylinder + booster, will set you back around $700 if you fit it yourself.Just to give you an idea.

Engineers is required as VT brakes weren't an option on VN's. Duh.
I was going to do this on my VP but the idea of hub adaptors just didn't sit right with me and I kept hearing bad things about how spongy the VT brakes were, even with a 1" master cylinder (my car is a V8).
$700 is the average price for the VT kit.
Hub adapters arnt a problem at all, the shims for VR and VS are the real dodgy ones. As for the spongy pedal, if you have a 1" master it's not going to be that bad. If you really don't want any do it correctly like I have, VT master and booster along with a VS reservoir.
Selling FG G6E Turbo and buying a N/A Supra
yeah i'm getting a genuine full vn group a setup for 950, just couldn't be assed dealing with engineers cert. just need a 1" master cylinder.
The problem with genuine group A brakes is the rotors are ridiculously expensive. If you have to replace the rotors at any point in the cars life it will cost you an arm and a leg, unlike the VT rotors.
I do the VT upgrade kit like I said earlier, $750 with standard rotors, $825 with slotted.
Damn straight, the new hubs are not some dodgy adaptor, or spacer, they're a whole hub assembly. What you're doing is converting it to a separate hub setup like on the VR/VS but with the correct diameter to fit VT discs.
There is another option for people doing the conversion on a VR/VS, they don't have to use the spacer rings, they can buy DBA040B dics, they are VT size discs with a suitable inner diameter for VR/VS hubs. Not really relevant though.
I didn't find spongy pedal to be a problem with my brakes, yes it's softer than before, but that's about it. Everyone who's driven it has no problem with the brakes. I've got a modded VT master here, but I'm not sure whether I'll bother fitting it. I've said it before and I'll say it again, they're a brilliant value upgrade.

i have the vt brake upgrade on mine, with curved slotted rotors and braided lines, but am still yet to team them up with my 1" mc and rear curved slotted rotors, the brake pedal is a little softer with the 15/16 then before but it pulls up alot quicker, no fade anymore(i think thats what its called??)
With a 1" M/C you will have better fluid volume so the brake pedal will be firmer. The slots on the rotors eliminate fade because the gas build up from the heat is dissipated by the slots.
Its only $480 to get a certificate as long as you have the standard specs vrs new specs, ur laughing. Im gettin my VZ upgrade engineered in a few months.
Gee thats a bit more than the $180 the engineer wanted in NSW to write me a certificate for the VT's I was thinking of putting on.
I think I might keep looking for the VN Group A brakes then, no engineers certificate required for those, but I'll try to find out how much it costs in QLD.
If you are going vt/x master/booster I can supply any of the parts you need from the modified bracket to modified booster to complete setup .....a few blokes on this site are using some of my parts and noone has sent anyone around to rough me up because it was dodgy ....pm me if you are interested.

Ok, is the following upgrade kit the sort of deal that one would be looking at coupled with a vt master/booster?
COMMODORE VB VC VH VK VL VN VP VQ BIG BRAKES GROUP A - eBay Commodore, Holden, Car Parts, Cars, Bikes Boats. (end time 15-Sep-07 10:02:56 AEST)
I do realise you could do it a bit cheaper if you sourced all the parts second hand or something but hmmm, it seems rather tempting
u guys that do the vt upgrade for ure v8's, do u use just the v6 brakes or the v8 ones?
