how long and hard is it to remove manifolds and renewing gaskets and how do you clean throtte bodys in v6 vn/vps
Howdy homer
Removing the throttle body + elbow is simply a case of undoing the bolts that hold them in place (three for the throttle body, and two for the elbow?), and removing the associated vacuum hoses. If you wish, you can label them - but it's all pretty straight forward.
To remove the IAC, you'll need some torx screwdrivers - although I find a small allen key fits the screw heads just nicely. I think there's one on either end of the IAC from memory, and that should remove the unit.
To clean out the TB and elbow, just lather them in some carby cleaner and let them drip-dry. $10-$15 from any auto store.
Gaskets are cheap too - ensure you have the correct ones before you begin because you'll likely break one or two when you disassemble the whole lot.
All up, maybe a two hour job if it's your first time and you're not too confident. Just don't go removing the throttle spindle, because if you **** it up, it's likely you'll never get it back on correctly by yourself![]()
I know I couldn't!!
