    Default Brake question

    Hi guys,

I need some info from you guys before I am going to order the rotors online.
Can somebody see what kind of rotor I have?
Is it the DBA017 or DBA027. The only difference I can see from the catalogue is the originall thickness. The 027 is suitable for ABS but my car does not have ABS. (Commodore VP SS 1993). According to the catalogue mine should be DBA027 because my chassis no. is higher then 570557. I am just a little confused regarding the ABS.
Does it make much difference between the 017 and 027 or do both fit?

I'm pretty sure they both fit, and it's just the thickness. The one for ABS is the thicker one. Before you order them, I am a wholesaler, I could price up a set if you like.

Yes, both will fit on post 10/92 (chassis #569902, from the DBA catalogue). The difference in thickness is to improve durability.

When VP were new, brake disc wear was an issue - with genuine pads, revised to avoid noise with a non-asbestos containing compound - discs were wearing out faster than customers found acceptable. To overcome this, the disc (new) thickness was increased, from 22-23mm and the minimum thickness reduced from 21mm to 20mm.

To ensure the pads remained stable at the new minimum thickness, the pad backing plates were either "joggled" - little tabs formed on the inside ends of the backing plate - or, depending on pad source, the pad backing plates made thicker (6mm vs 5mm I think).

To permit the caliper to slide over the thicker disc with new pads and the thicker backing plate, the caliper was made wider. So, if the calipers are original either disc will fit and the thicker disc will have a longer life. If the caliper has been swapped for an earlier type at some point, there may be a clearance issue with new pads and discs.

The ABS ring presses over a machined surface on the inner face of the disc/hub. DBA-027's are machined to take the ABS ring so if it were fitted, the old ring would have to be swapped across, otherwise the discs are the same.

Thanks a lot for the answers.
At the moment I am running into the trouble of weight. A friend of mine is flying back to Brunei but is a little sceptical regarding the weight of a pair of rotors. They weigh around 11KG a piece so he will reach his baggage allowance with only the rotors.
Now shipping this with DHL will cost around AU$470 which is a lot as well.
    Does anybody have any suggestions?
