as the title says...who has one, where and how much was it, and does it work?
have u ever pulled it out with metalic bits on it?
Theyre not a bad idea and do work if you got metal in your sump then you have problems somewhereputting strong magnets (like from hard drives) on the oil filter is a better idea
hard drive magnets sounds like a good idea.. caus they are ****ing strong!![]()
there on ebay every now and then, dont remeber how much they were but, like pub24/7 said if you have metal floating around in the engine you have problems and they should get picked up by the oil filter
There will always be metal in the sump, the engine is continually wearing so metal is being transported around the engine. I use hard drive magnets on my filter. It's due for a service now, when I get time I'll cut the filter open and see how efficient they were.
well when i purchased my engine off luke it had many magnets on the bottom of the sump, i removed the sump and took a look, they were holding all the filings from the hole he drilled perfectly in place, you'd be suprised if you clean out your sump, the oil stays that yellow colour for a few days![]()
my oil stays clean for 5000ks then i change it again my engine must be in good nick.magnetic sump bungs and those filter magnets work really good ive cut open oil filters that have had magnetic covers you would be amased at the fine metal in there. you can also get an inline trans filter from magnefine these are awesome little filters it says that when fitting one to put a drain bung in the trans sump cause you should never have to take the pan of and do a filter again and they improve shifts as well they are not cheaps but neither is an auto ide highly recomend them we put a new one on a trans with dirty oil and it turned the oil red again awesome little things work well aussie made to i beleive
Arnt there magnets already in the sump from factory? In my VN 5ltr Gregories it mentions it in the sump removal section.
never thought of putting magnets on the oil filter ... i have heard of sump bolt magnets ..
I think I might give it a go..
also magnets from broken stereo speakers are strong as well ...
Vn executive 1990 200,000kms as of 13/6/08 , oil changes every 5000kms since it rolled out the factory , strut brace for hard cornering, kn pod filter, Ngk iridiums sports exhaust..what else can I say I love my holden![]()

magents in the transmission from the factory, but not the motor.
And yeah, go the magents on the fiter rather than the sump plug. pick up a few old hard drives on the cheap, and have a smash & grab in your own back yard.
You get a few nice frisbees also. but i wouldnt reccomend sharpening and throwing them. a little dangerous.
Rather than smash and grab, its only about 8 phillips head screws that hold it all together.
just went and priced a sump plug (magnetic) from holden other day...$6
Yep. Hard drive magnets are very strong, they will not fall off and they don't get weak like a conventional magnet.
I was curious about those filter magnets... sounds like I might have to give them a whirl.
