I'm just a bit curious about the factory temperature gauge on the VP Commodores. Does anybody know the range of temperatures it displays?
eg: a reading of halfway - what sort of engine temperature would that indicate? And at 3/4 again, what am I looking at? I've had a bit of a looksie, but it doesn't appear to be covered
cheers in advance, guys!

Yeh, 1/2 = the same as H-1/4 + (-)1/4 and also = C + 1/4 + 1/4
isnt H = the suns operating temp? lol....
imnot sure it is mesurable without an afteranrket guage..
aZk.
No gauge is the same thats for sure my level 1 cluster just over halfway when really hot
but my level 3 one gets just over a quarter at it hottest. if you knew the operating temp versus resistance of the sensor you'd might be able to work out an a guestimate.
Blue = good
Red = bad
Steam+knocking = really bad
Engine stop = really really bad
lmao ^^ thanks for that, abba
Usually I go off trans temp. If I can feel a LOT of heat coming through the bottom of the gear lever, then I assume I'm in trouble.
Maybe it's time for an aftermarket unit ^^

If you need to know the actual coolant temp then install an aftermarket gauge.
yeah. That way I know whether to worry about my temperature. Last thing I want to do is blow a head gasket![]()

I didn't say that it happened in that order. You just experienced the last two, but without the steam.
haha, well I'm decided that I'm going to chase an aftermarket coolant temp gauge. I'll look at some prices tomorrow. If anyone knows off the top of their heads, can I just splice an aftermarket gauge into my water temp sender wire? That would be so easy
May also look into an oil temp gauge. I think they have senders that you adapt to your oil filter, don't they?
Gotta look after this motor. Last thing I want is an overheating issue in summer. Hmmm... gotta run. Shouldn't be on here at work
*runs*

nope you gotta get the correct sender for the gauge (should come with it) then you have to buy a t-peice for the original sender, (unless you dont want it to work anymore). Once that done just hook up acc and illumination to it. with oil gauges you can buy an adaptor that goes between the filter and engine. not sure on prices or where to get them so best bet is another t-peice on oil pressure sensor.
visit street commodores, there a good how-to under TECH > Interior > Issue 101.
Power is measured in DECIBEL
Interesting - cheers for that mateI'll have a looksie today. Probably end up costing me close to $100 all up though... expensive >.<
(pfft, still at work. )
