Default drove with no oil...how stuffed am i?

as some of you know, i cracked the sump on saturday night.
front wheels dropped in ditch, manhole cover smacked sump, crack. drove about 20 metres to a parking spot where it stayed, bleeding

2 hours later, towie comes, says "drive her onto the truck, she'll be right"
so drove about 5 m onto tow truck.

get home, says "just drive it into mechanics garage, she'll be fine"
so drove it 5m into garage

car doesn't get moved from sunday to thursday.
theres still a pool of oil, but not much.

mech says "reverse it, it'll be right"
    so i reverse about 5 m

when the sump comes off, theres bugger all oil left in it.

quesiton is...HAVE I STUFFED MY ENGINE BY DRIVING WITH LITTLE TO NO OIL?

the sumps come off but the new one has gone on arleady without being able to check it

how can i tell if its stuffed my engine? i think the bearings are stuffed?

There's disturbed people out there in the world that drain the oil in old cars and rally them around to see how long they can last without oil in the sump, they last alot longer than you would think , you might have worn some stuff a bit but it will still keep on going for a long ime I'm sure, its a easy a cheap motor to reaplce anyway so don't loose sleep or stress over it

The fact that there was still oil running out of it suggests there was enough oil left in the system to keep things lubed up enough. It should be fine.

There was a comp over here years ago called 'go til you blow' basically hammer the crap out of your car on the skid pad until it breaks something. I had an XE falcon wagon, threw a big end through the side of the block, started it up and away I went again, pop goes another one, she still fired up. The officials told me to get off because I was throwing too much oil around. Didn't win because the car still ran.

WOW hehehe mate your car will be fine but you should contact the local council about that ditch and what it did to your car as in some cases you can make them liable for the damage to your car.

Take photos of where it happened and the damage its done to your car and contact the council and give them copies of photos & tell them you have contacted a lawyer & will be sending them the bill and see what they say.

That "pop" sound is an expensive sound to hear. Also that clatter sound a rod makes thrashing around the block.. Stock car racing was a heap of fun.

That depends if you were playing silly buggers or not. Also make sure you have sufficient ride height to clear the ADR laws cos they will attempt to screw you on that im sure. i think its either 10 or 15 cm from the lowest part of the car...

Oh, you'd probably be surprised how chunky that metal actually is But half a tonne of pressure on that small area is damn hardcore for any metal to withstand. That sucks, man - but I can guarantee you that running the car for 10 seconds with no oil, will do no harm at all. Heck, when you first start your car in the morning there's just as much oil in the heads as if you had drained the sump anyway

Ride Height is measured by 'eye brow' height...ie the distance from the centre of the wheel hub to the top part of the guards.Front or rear.Is in S.A.
