rolling rear gaurds

whats the best/easiest way to roll the gaurds on my VN. gonna fit some 17's with the IRS offset. when i tried them last time they rubbed a little on the rear. there gonna be on there for a long trip and i don't want it rubbing every time i go over a bump etc

hehe, my back left rubs on the guard with three people in the back on a tight corner I'd say you're best off heating the paint a little with a heat gun, and bending it back with some sort of clamp and a thick cloth.

Either that, or do what I did with my mazda, and attack the bastards with a hammer

carefull with the square arse cars lol, my mate rolled his vn calais rear gaurds and instead of just folding the lip over it actually pumped the whode gaurd out - it would look cool if done nicely but he basically rooted his car lol.....

weve done heaps of commys and find the best way is to roll a small metal bar along the tyre, or if you dont mind a couple of cracks in your paint a rubber mallet is ok (carpainters so that doesnt bother us lol)

i did mine the day i got my mags. went home, grabbed a hammer and a block of wood. ripped the wheel off and went to town. wood on the outside, hammer on the inside. literally folded the edge over. i ended up with a couple tiny spots that werent flat, but thats because i got impatient and rushed it. but, i didnt crack any paint.

i used a mallet dont know how heavy it was but it was a small one and just hammered them they came out pretty good

im too scared to do the hammer / wood thing.....

id try and get a panel beater to do it instead

but thats just me..........good thing my good mates work in nearly every main car trade so they help me out a bit

70 bucks a guard, thats not too bad, for a PROFESSIONAL job haha

all the professionals do is aroll a bar arount to start the fold then take the wheel off and finsh with a mallet.....

rut remember to fill the new fold up with a rust killer as it may have cracked the paint and you have just created a new rust trap

Isnt there a machine that it by bolting to your hub and rotates around, rolling the guard as it goes? And doesnt crack the paint?

Yeah... doesn't work on square guards. ... and it still cracks the paint.

No professionals will guarantee against cracking paint, i paid about 70 a guard when i put my 245's on the arse end of my SV, i didnt feel like attacking my pride and joy with a hammer so left it to someone else, no paint cracking, and stopped the rubbing easily

So what would be the best way to do it? with a hammer and block of wood, or putting the poll between the tire and guard? alot of people i know are doing the tire and poll thing but would it push the guard out more? would it help to make 2 cuts on the lip and put the poll there and roll it about 15-20cm?

yeah i did mine with a piece of wood not too thick and nice and soft pine, between the tyre and the guard, started at the back of the car, then i just drove forward slowly pushing the lip flat and the guard out a tiny bit, on my old vn i used a sledge hammer as a slide hammer and just bashed the crap out of it, and both times have never cracked the paint or chip it or anything, the idea with cutting the lip at each end is a good idea

Can use a baseball bat but tends to bulge the rear gaurds if they a square.
