in the VN holden recomended a special trans oil, however in the later model commodores holden changed it to dextron III. most trans shops i have spoken to say to just say to use the trans fluid. as for spark plugs, just the regular of the shelf NGK plugs are fine, i think there BPR5EFS or something like that. you could use the fancy platinum or iridium tipped plugs, they might last a lot longer but they cost a lot more also. just make sure to check the gaps are properly set at 1.5mm

Synthetic Dextron III is the official and best oil for the T5. Spark plugs, just whatever is your favorite brand

I read somewhere.. i think it was in a gearbox building book, that you definitely do not use synthetic ATF in the BW T5. Mineral ATF Dextron III+ Penrite Lubrizol was highly recommended, so i just use that.

Also, all the gearbox builders i have spoken to also say to stay away from filling Synthetic ATF into the T5.

I think it said not to use synthetic ATF due to something in the additives which is not compatible. I will try to find the info!

I bought some dextron III auto trans fluid. will this be sweet to put in my manual t5 box??

Also does anyone know the torque settings for the 8 bolt flywheels on the VN

I am half way to converting my car to manual. Pedal box is in, auto is out, so is the plate that connects to the block. Just need to get that plate out of the manual wreck I have here and then its time to bolt flywheel and clutch on, and then gearbox goes in. Should be all done today if all goes well
