Default Son's VN Ser 1 project rebuild

Son has a Ser 1 VN V6 Dual fuel which I'm helping him rebuild bit by bit as his income allows & so to teach him the ways of the force...Luke....Atm he's cruzn around in an old XD Ford(Wat the...??)it's a free gift from Grandad while his VN is being fixed & which he totally hates driving, but it's a cheap ride on lpg.So far he's had the V6 completely rebuilt, new everything in the engine.Front end rebuilt, ball joints, Rad Rod Bushes, Stab Links, Tie Rod Ends etc, Painted & all detailed front end.Bought new front & rear bumpers ready to be resprayed in the body colour.Currently we're doing up the rear end.New Fuel pump to be fitted & the Fuel tank removed so we can replace the perished vapour lines.Paint & detail the tank & straps.I'll respray it in the same 'Morning Blue' as it originally is + a colour coded rear wing to finish it off.

I recall it's was $3,300 for his engine alone & that was to stock specs. Can remember off hand atm the new bore & piston sizes or how much they shaved off the heads. That was just the bill from the engine work done.We done most of the work, pulling the engine out, stripping it down & putting back.Lad works full time so it's all his own coin.Depends on how sick you can afford to make yor donk.It won't be the quickest VN's on the roads but that really wasn't the aim.Back in Jan when my Son bought the car he didn't know wat an altenator was or where it sat.Now he knows how to pull the engine out, how to fix up his brakes + wat an altenator is now.If my lad how to pay sumbody to do all this he could neva afford it & besides he's learning sumthing.
As for respraying it, I've painted 000's of them.I worked there yrs back during the VL'N & P's in the paint shop.Left or right handed, blindfolded, no problem...I'll show him to do that too...

mate sounds like you've got it sorted!

thats seriously great work, i had to teach my self everything, its a useful skill to have and it saves money, did you get a brand new timing cover or just acid dipped?

soo is the new motor in?
they'res some simple things you can do to make it that extra bit quicker, ie shave heads + raise comp, port and polish, heavy duty valve springs (for top end), regrind cam ($150 or something)

but over all good work, looks like you have the tools to do the job well,
ill be building something big soon aswell maybe even fixing my old calais after its broken, but keep up the good work! any pics of the car? what colour is it?

That's his Timing Cover. It was 1 of the very few things on his original engine that was in A1 cond.Previous owner must've bought a newbie 4 it.We had it machined & cleaned up.Inlet Manifold was also in good nick so we had it cleaned up & machined. The radiator was also in good cond but we tossed out & scored a newie 4 $160.I didn't want any snot going in2 a new engine, no matter how clean we got it.We figured it was good insurance from any over heating probs.Dun have any good pics of it atm as it's under the carport on stands & difficult to get a full length shot. It's still blue in places coz we're still rubbing it back.No bumpers head or tail lights are in it.We're ripping off the Diff this weekend & shoving new upper & lower arm bushes in it.Paint the Diff back up sweet & put it all back in.
I spent $5,000 on a hot 308 in my VKC yrs back.Rebuilt the complete drivetrain of it back up in Nolathane.Rebuilt the Trans & Diff myself, new Fuel Vapour Lines, S Lows F & R, Rebuilt Steer Rack, Adj P Rod, New Strut tops & Shockers all round & painted it all underneath front to rear in body tar while the under carriage was out.I haven't driven my Calais for 2yrs, it's still here in it's own shed wrapped up.I just keep starting it once a week. It's my blokey toy thingy...
