yeah g'day has anyone ever engineered or pondered moving the tracks or mountings on their seats so that it puts you just that little bit closer to the window

In reality the VN side impact protection is not great (based on the amount of flexing I can feel on the B pillar and body shell during cornering) so for your own safety I'd want to be further away from the side of the car.

On the same topic while it is not "cool" if you can raise your seat you "might" get your hip above the hard impact point of another car's bumper when being T-boned.

Eat lots of food, drink beer and exercise, you will become big and strong and then you wont have to move the rails to hang your arm out the window for trucks and cars to clean it up.
