hello what temperature thermostat do you put in a vp v6 as when i did my water pump the thermostat was brown but i put the old one back in for a while but if i replace the thermostat will i loose coolant. if so how much will i loose and because i replaced the thermostat gasket not long ago when i did the water pump do i have to do it again.
best to replace the gasket when you do the thermostat.... however, if it comes off in one piece it maybe re-usable. failing that, make your own from the cover of your phone book.
you will only loose the coolant thats in the radiator hose above the thermostat, the thermostat is normally the highest point on the engine so you won't loose any coolant form there.
i tend to do all these things together, waterpump, thermostat etc for an extra $10 it's not all that much to do the thermostat really and it saves having to do it later

Yes you will lose a little bit of coolant.....maybe 300ml if that. Just gotta be quick. And what thermostat? Not 100% sure but ring holden parts and just ask for a thermostat for a Vp V6 what tell them what year your "p" is.

but you can get a 80c just to run that bit cooler, ive got a 180 in my vp. the dimater of the thermostat is 44mm, so find a 44mm 80.c thermostat. and ull be set mate, do the gasket its like 3 bucks for a tridon item... a good trick to is wen u have your housing off scrape it on some concrete to score the surface and get it flat again.
