    Default V8 oil sump removal

    Guys,

Here in Brunei there are not many holdens around, so I have to rely on my local garage.
They unfortunately have never seen my kind of car before (VP SS V8).
Now my sump gasket is leaking badly and I would like them to replace it (ordered one from e-bay), since it is a really messy job.
The mechanic don't know how to do that since the space is very limited.
Now I searched the forum but could not really be sure of the answers here, mainly V6 answers.
So here is the question; do you need to lift the engine, or lower the cross memeber, or can it be done without those tricks?

    Thanks

You've got it right. You either have to lift the engine, or suspend the engine from the strut towers and lower the crossmember. Your local garage should have the gear to do either. If you really feel like fiddling, you can just drop the sump as far as it'll go and try to work with the room you've got. I wouldn't reccomend it though.

Beau Duke: Oh no, I'm gonna have sex with it.

    Thanks guys,

Will tell the mechanic tomorrow. I think the easiest is to drop the crossmember, so more space will be created to unbolt the sump. The steering gear has to come off anyway to put in the O-ring I forgot when renewing the seals.
No need to take off the starter and aircon compressor?

    Thanks

overseas lol.... yeah it is the easiest way to do it, just make sure you trace lines around the k-frame onto the chassis so you can adjust it and so you know its going to be all straight when you bolt it back up

Well the Holden agent sits in the capital about 1 hour drive from my place.
They charge high rates and are not easy to reach.
So I prefer my local garage, for price and service.
I can walk in any time I want or even borrow tools from them. They are 2 minutes walk from my house.
Here in Kuala Belait there are only 3 to 4 Holdens and only 1 VP (as I know of)

    Cheers
