    Default VP diff quick question!

Am I correct in understanding that a VN/P/R/S live rear V8 wagon/ute diff (disc to disc) will fit entirely onto a VP sedan? I am lead to believe through my forum searching that the housings are different (no center swap) but the entire hub-hub assembly will swap straight over. Go or no go?

(and if not, is there a sensible way to get that wagon/ute diff center into a sedan?)

I'm not usre if they are different but don't you think there's enough sedan ones in the scrap yards of the world to not worry about utes and wagons?

The diffs are the same, the centre is swappable. You can swap the centre, or the whole diff... Its up to you.

    But agree with greenfoam...

yeah they are the same for the exception that the ute axles have a seat on top of the axle for the bump stops and the shock mounts are 90 degrees to the axle rather that being parallel, but it will bolt up with nothing having to be changed

Haha, it's more a case of there being a wagon/ute diff available with reco LSD and 3.7 gears for a bargain price.

So you say the centres ARE swappable vn2nv? keeewl ^^

the shock absorber mounts are different to sedan one.... ute/wagon ones have a stud and nut which holds the bottom of the shock to the diff housing, the sedan one uses 2 metal tabs, a bolt and a nut which goes thru the bottom of the shocker.

trust me ive tried to fit a sedan diff under my ute and it didnt work, well wouldnt without modification

the shock absorber mounts are completely different as are the shock absorbers themselves. also the upper control arm mounts are a little bit further outwards on the sedans.... this has been confirmed about a year ago in a thread somewhere there was pics to show the differences

haha, cheers for the informed answers guys. Thanks peanuts.

But taking the center out of the diff and slapping it into mine will all go a-okay? (I'm looking for a second opinion on that now vn2nv... not that I don't trust you lol

lol nah probably best considering I was wrong before

But the diff centre from any BW M78 diff should be completely interchangable.

*bumps* has anybody else had experience swapping centers?

my brief excursion with the "search" function brought up a result that mentioned centers not being interchangable... can anybody back up vn2nv in saying that this isn't true?

I don't see, myself, why on earth they would NOT be swappable... but it's good to be sure

The centres are the same Morton, and yes you can swap the centres over, But I would buy another housing from a sedan and get that setup first so yours stays driveable then bolt it all in as a unit

Cheers for the confirmation on the centers

That's a pretty good idea, swapping them on a separate housing. I'll see what my diff guy wants to charge for a center swap first, though. He does a damn good job, and for decent prices.

    Let's see what happens tomorrow!

That's going to throw your budget for sticky tyres out the window then you wont make a 6.99 before the diff goes in, p.s incase you didn't notice I made that sub 5.5 run just as predicted with the 3.45s, but it wasn't as easy to do as I thought

Yeah, I was just looking at that in your sig ^^ 5.41 is damn quick

And I won't throw the diff in quite yet. I have a little bit of "budget" coming up soon in the form of tax return I have to buy the diff center now though... not available for long!!

I'll buy the diff, and keep it aside until I can run a 7.0x - then plan for having it fitted in November
