Tail shaft

hi there

i got given a tail shaft of a mate for my car but when we went to insatll it we noticed it had vn v8 sedan on it and it would fit

how can you tell the difference between the v6 and v8 ones sedan and or station wagon ones

and also what are they worth if any one knows

ones longer then the other, also i would suspect that manual tail shafts will go for more then auto ones.
