    Default Fuel Efficiency

    Hey guys,

I am new at this so bear with me I am getting a 1989 VN Executive Wagon, 5 sp manual, 3.8L V6. I'm looking to fix it up a bit. And I was just wondering if you guys can help me out. I want to increase the fuel efficiency of it, so is anyone able to suggest some mods for it, or even point me in the right direction of a previous thread that may help me. Thanks in advance

    5sp wagon Good investment!!

I'd say change the oxy sensor ($70), change the coolant temp sensor ($15), change your spark plugs ($23), change the spark leads ($60?), change the fuel filter ($12), change the air filter ($15), and put in some fresh oil. See how things go

A well mantained car will always run efficiently. How many Ks has it got on it?

Change the Fuel reg $80, Get the injectors cleaned ????$100???, Grab a Memcal of blackstar on ebay $170.. Run that sucker on 98oct fuels Shell and BP have the highest octane under a test i seen sometime ago.. Everything might make the car move faster but it makes for a more efficient running car which will save fuel...
I myself get 450km from a tank of 95% local im very happy with this only mods are catback exhaust CAI. But i replaced the injectors new fuel reg new oxygen sensor new fuel filter new iridium spark plugs and 9mm top gun leads run a thinner superior oil and i should get a k&n filter.
Even little things like tyre pressures can give you good or bad econemy on a small scale if they are to low or high. Even keep the windows up on highways.

Yer, tips for better fuel econ, lets see...

    1. Service your car regularly
    2. Keep tyre pressure up
    3. Don't drive with a lead foot.

    Have a nice day.

nice homemade CIA where you have a 80 or 100mm diameter pipe running from the front bar to the bottom of the airbox and have a decent fitler in there. other thne that as all have mentioned above, a well maintained car usually runs better. don't forget to service the transmission and diff also. they too work better with nice clean high quality oil

put it on gas or get a 4cyl. i used to get 9.5/100 from my manual v6 i wouldnt use 98 it has never gotten me better ecconomy, 98 is mainly made for cars with high compresion and alot of advance a stock motor wont benifit.

There's the suggestion of the CAI(cold air intake) not sure how much that will help? but it appears that there isnt much else that can be done in terms of mods? is there anything on the exhaust side that can improve things?

Yes that's a good idea, But one thing i have learnt is to light on the foot can labour the car and give you worse econemy, So it's really important to find that perfect spot in between and stick with it, Even driving around 0-60 zones in 3 speed can help keep the engine more efficient and not labouring about.

read this .. Ive tried everything ... they are just heavy tanks that dont like stop start driving..
but there are a few things you can do..but remember the more K's on the engine the more fuel they will use no matter what you do..average from fuel tank is 300km;s stop start city driving & 450-500km constant highway driving..

    have look ere..
