any1 able to help or suggest my prob? pretty standard vn ss 5 spd, h/duty clutch(new)
it is a misson to get any gears, gotta really force it in and reverse doesnt go cos just grinds hell bad.....have a new clutch cable and have adjusted the cable but no difference.....anyidea my problem?
better not be the synchro's or anythin expensive, it all just came out of nowhere and th gbox never been thrashed or burnouts
thanks in advance
Have you changed oil lately???
Maybe it now has the wrong oil in it or it is too heavy for the application.
Friend of mine had this and he was running a heavy gear oil that was inapropriate for the job. Changed the oil and it was all sweet again.
I had been running ATF in the gearbox ( not the transfer box tho) of my cruiser ute for the last 7 years and it was sweet as.
Before this it felt like it needed rebuilding , like the synchros were shagged!

did ya get the flywheel machined? if so, did you adjust the pivot point to suit? how high is the clutch pedal?

With your reverse, select 5th (just shift into the gate) and then grab reverse. Its a common problem i've noticed with all T5s

Change your grear oil. I had the very same issue, i was using a 75-90W Manual gear oil, changed it to a Fully Synth ATF and ive never been happier with the box. T5's respond really well to ATF... so does my motobike...

cheers fella's, that gives me a bit to work with....will try change th oil.
yeh flywheel machined wen did clutch 2 months ago.....
doesnt seem to make a difference wher th pedal is, still a mission to shove it into any gears
dunno much about th pivot point but im guessin th dude did that mayb?!?
yeh seems like all th clutch adjustment is doin is moving th pedal and very lil movement on th fork
Its got nothing to do with the clutch, unless, your chirping the gears, if there just tough then its not clutch...
Gear oil is easy, You need some big allen keys, theres two plugs, filler and drop.
Loosen the filler, then remove the drop. Loosing the filler will allow air to flow and itll drain faster..!
You need a oil pump to refill it. It takes 2.05Litres of Oil to refill. Make sure you play with the gears abit and then check the level of oil.
You know its full when it starts overflowing from the filler!

cheers
will try giv th oil change a go
yeh gears are really tight and hard to get into, and cant get into reverse at all, just keeps grinding....hav to start th car in reverse and then ease out on th clutch
i agree with the checking of your pivot point ive seen people have problems there before, and are you sure you havent managed to bend your clutch fork i had troubles like that with mine, before it decided to snap!
yeh jaseppe, that sounds something like it ey
th fork barely seems to move enuff toward th flywheel no matter how much adjustment u give it
u just grab a replacement one off a wreck?
I had the same prob when i changed my clutch.I bought a new unit fron ABS and when i fitted it the car wouldnt go into gear when the engine was running.
Ended up being the snout on the clutch plate was touching the outer sleve that surounds the output shaft.Took a few mm of on a lathe and everything was sweet. Then i rang ABS i got them to pay the $150 that my mechanice charged me to pull the box out.
How heavy is your clutch pedal?
I had a very heavy clutch pedal and problems engaging 1st and reverse (no matter what gear I selected beforehand), due to the standard plastic throw-out bearing breaking around where the fork goes on it. The clutch would still function, but it did cause the fork to hang down and drag on the bellhousing, giving me a heavy pedal and hard to engage gears.
Reverse will always grind if you dont select a gear first to slow the box down, and then engage reverse, due to it having a sliding clutch select mechanism, and not synchro's.
I understand its a new clutch and all, so this solution is probably unlikely, but something to check anyway.
to gmh... : cheers, hoping its not ur way, th clutch been in for 3 months, shouldnt start doin it randomly now should it?
to hilerus: that sounds similar, wen th new clutch put in, that old bearing was screwed, it had turned side on, hope that hasnt happened again....
anyway its goin th shop tomorow he can rip off inspection plate etc etc and hav a look, ive cracked th ****s
he reckons mayb bent clutch fork
I used an aftermarket steel type throw-out bearing to stop it from happening again. You did get a new bearing didn't you?
I also replaced the rubbers that sit in the fork, and squashed the fork in the vice to give it a bit of clamp over the throw-out bearing.
It seems strange to be the fork, they dont just bend for no reason, unless there was an assembly error or something?
if its been in for 3 months it wouldnt be the same problem i had.
when i first did my clutch the bearing was stuffed on one side aswell and the presure plate colapsed on one side.My mechanic told me to only push the clutch in an inch or so when changing gears and the bearing will last alot longer.i pulled the engine and box out last year to replace gaskets and engine mounts and when i looked at the clutch it showed no sign of uneven wear since i only push the pedal in slightly
