i jump started my car as it whent flat today and now she wont start.
i have checked the fuel pump and thats all good.. it still turns over but no go.
there is no engine light when the ignition is on and when i try to put it into diag mode the light does not come on (i have checked the globe :P )
could this mean a totally fried ecu?
als i could not get a voltage reading form the map sensor.. i assume that this could also be due to a dead ecu.
any help would be great..
thanks all

my vp was doing this intermediatly for a while and the only way i could get the car to start was to arc out 2 wires on my aldl link, the 12 volt one and the fuel pump test wire. or the 2 that are on the other side if u where doing a dianostic check.
the problem went away after changing the fuel pump when it finally wouldn't work anymore.
hope this helps

i have tried hard wiring the fuel pump to see if it is the problem and it still wont start. i just find it strange that it wont let me go into diag mode to see for error codes. thats why i thought mabey the computer is kaput.. i figure no computer no diagnostic mode..
also without hardwiring the fuel pump there is only .3 volts to the pump. same as at the map sensor.
replaced computer today and still nothing any help would be great as its quite urgent.. i cant be without a car for too long..
Maybe, being a calais, the alarm is playing up and preventing the ECU from powering up
I know on my mum's old calais the alarm was really touchy

ohh sorry that was darn stupid of me.. i have not updated. my new one is a bog standard 91 vn. last of the series one engines
Maybe start with: Spark?, Fuel (injector pulse)?, Fuses/fusible links?,
i should be able to check for pulse with a multi meter right?,
Checked all the fuses??
I know there are testing procedures in the gregories manual for the ECU, but considering you have replaced it, its sounding like there isn't any power getting to it

No diagnostics mode screams ecu to me, check that your memcals not dislodged, borrow a mates and test if it works,
failing that find out if its getting fuel, remove a spark plug and get a mate to crank it over, and smell the air comming outta teh spark plug hole, if its not fuel smelling then no fuel = ecu
if its fueling but not sparking then its not ecu, get a lead and a spare plug, plug the head into the spare plug then ground the plug on somewhere like the strut tower bolts , resting will be fine, ive been zapped a few times by holding it and leaning across
if its not sparking or not injecting then its probbly ecu, get under the rear and get a mate to turn it to reds and listen for hte fuel pump prime, no prime = ecu issue/wiring issue
ok. i have checked with a known working computer (drove the car to mine). still nothing. checked power feed to ecu all good, checked fuses and fuasble links all good, i am at a loss.. are there any hidden fuses or anything like that i should check?
and is there anyone in sa who lives near moana who would be able to help as i need this car badly... cant have a baby and no car dammit.. lol
have tried it with a hard wired fuel pump as well and still nothing..
all good everyone.. turns out there was a kill switch on the centre console and when i lifted the carpet back i switched it on.. lol.. the guy i got it off of never told me about it.. man i feel like a right idiot.. must say though i would never have found out if i didnt have a multi meter..
I had a problem with my vn shorting out when i turned the key past power, i asked my mate what to do and he took out the starter motor and threw it against a brick wall then she whent just fine.
Good to see you got it going, at least you know you have a well concealed kill switch mine is the aerial.
