Default jus a few questions, and maby a little fault :)

i gots a 1992 VP Commodore, and im just enquiring about a whole back end replace.

for example.. like everything, suspension, diff, bushes everything ( i don't know what everything is haha)

how much would i be looking at? im wanting to tighten the whole back end up. I got quoted by a mate, for him to do it, everything brand new including ultra low springs for $1000 + $150 labour, but the diff isn't brand new. i just don't wana be ripped off..

another question!.. i smell fuel from my aircon, only usually when i have the heater on. I replaced a few fuel line hoses that come into the engine bay, but i smell fuel sometimes when the cars turned off from the pasenger side.. ??

    cheers guyz

Your fuel smell will be from the tank breather hoses. Rip the tank out, and replace all of them, not just the perished ones.
If your mate is stripping the rear end, get him to do it at the same time.

Why do you need a replacement diff? Or if you do, you not get yours rebuilt with a different ratio?

I think you are getting ripped personally, but if you can't do it yourself, its going to cost you.

If he's replacing EVERYTHING brand new (that is springs, shocks, bearings, bushes, diff center) then $1000 sounds decent. But I don't think you'd need it.

If you're in there doing bushes, try nolathane brand items. in some areas (especially control arms) they have significant advantages. For the diff, it's not worth changing... but if you want to, try LSD or different ratio gears

The bushes only cost a few bob. Springs & shock 2 - 3 hundred. Takes about 2 hours to do it yourself - maybe 3.

Fuel smell - tank rubber hoses would be a good place to start. Take the cover off behind the drivers wheel and look for wet fuel staines. If its wet - replace the hoses.

thats the thing.. the whole back end is going to be brand new. And i mean everything. And he said something about a pan rod or something along those lines, to stiffen the back end right up.

The problem is, i hit the curb popping all four tyres, now the suspension at the back has gone wonkey, and it seems that whenever i go over a bump, it does a bounce rotation. And the Diff has been leaking diff fluid :/ lets just say it was 3-am in the morning and the car spun out on no treaded tyres O_O

haha.. yehh.. coming down from freeway.. bit damp on the roads, bold tyres, launched it off from the lights, and the baby did a 360 rotation missing the tree's at the bottom ov the freeway and hitting the kurb popping the front.. then the rear hit and burst. my mates got some pics.. i need to get em off him.. he came out and jacked my car up at 3 am and put 4 tyres on lol and i drove away oh wells

but yeah the suspension squeaks too when i go over pot holes too.. and it feels like the back end sways when i turn the corner.. car came out with one scratch on the body work. so im pretty happy about that. it was a close call...
