Default opinions on a 5L 5sp calais VN

hey all. went and had a look at a VN 5 speed 5L Calais before at a car yard. has about 210,000 on the clock, dual fuel. looks fairly stock, but i couldnt tell you exactly. its in fairly good nick, interior and exterior. didnt get a chance to start/drive it so i cant say what the engine and clutch/gearbox is like etc..

i know the manual calais' are rare so what do you think they are worth?

i had a chat to another mate off this forum before and got his opinion, just wanted to see what everyone else thinks.

car yard had $7000 on it, offered me 1300 trade in for my car, so all together about 6000 with all on roads paid.

would be good to see what people think of price and trade in cost etc etc..

    thanks all, pauly.

7 is alot for a vn. ask them what they want no trade, might be able to get it cheaper. i doubt its a factory manual calais, and i dont think any vn, bar hsv's is worth 7k

Yeah, its prolly not a factory 5spd, im sure if you get some of the code from it someone could tell you if it is factory, but for a 210,000km old calais 7k is too much man, 5k would me my maximum for sure.

if you want a manual VN V8 you have to pay way more than they are worth, so I guess that makes them worth that price:P but you could get an SS for that money, so you have to decide SS or Calais

If it has all electrics, including climate control (think only series 2 had it, seen a few without it) then its worth that price. Gas is for BBQs, tell them to take it off and put it on another car, and get it cheaper.

The best way to tell if a VN/P Calais is a factory manual, it will have the cruise deleted. Converted ones like mine, still have cruise (but i'd rather it that way, i'm lazy)

Devo you didn't speak to me on msn about it

u could buy a calais and convert it to manual and still have change if u really wanted to ..

or u could go out and buy a smick VN SS for around that sort of money or a VR SS

7 is way too much, you could find a auto one with around the same k's for 4500 and do the manual conversion your self and you'd save around a grand if not more and you could sell the car you have now for more than what you'd get for a trade in.

    Yeah, 7k is too much.

I got offered 4.5 trade in for my hsv enhanced vp calais. V8, dead straight, 138 000km, full log books. It was auto though.

The salesman even told me that he would have it in the used car lot for 10k if I accepted his offer. Told him to get stuffed and if I sold it, it would be privately.

Look for a private sale then convert it yourself or look for one thats already been done.
