Unhappy Toyota lexcen 93 airconditioner not giving cool air

    Hi

The airconditioner in my toyota lexcen has stopped giving off cool air. I went to the Toyota specialists here in Southport,QLD but they say that the oil or coolant is not available now.....and that i will have to fix a new airconditioning system. If anyone here can tell me the brand name of the oil or coolant used to top up the airconditioner....that would be really great.....

Its too expensive to fit a whole new airconditioning system.

    G'day
Ive just done my VP ute after a dash refit and i did it at work (well the boss regassed it !!),and he used a refridgerant based on LPG and it works fine, best part didnt cost me a zack.
Are you sure its only out of gas ? the pressure switches are located on the passenger side inside the engine bay, start the engine turn on the AC and see if there is any juice at the switch the wires are green,if you have lost the gas there will be ower one side and not the other,if the juicxe ia on both sides then there is another prob.
    Regards Phillip

I think these cars used R12 which is an old refridgerant gas no longer used (ozone damaging). These days they use R134A and I believe most air conditioning places would want to replace your R12 with R134A but it would need new seals, hence the high price. (This only what I have heard so further research should be undertaken.)

I'd go and see an air conditioning specialist.

By the way the use of LPG or LPG based gas is not recommended.

All of you who answered ...thanks...

I will try and go get it regassed.....because the air that it is giving out is hot air....so its definitely the gas that needs to be filled in......

its not that expensive to get your old system converted to new gas about 300 at most. goto a auto electrition or a aircond specialist like natrad or somthing tho not toyota.

now to hijach your thread does anyone know how muchn oil to put into a vn aircond pump if its empty (mine is its second hand with no oil) i did my recearch and came up with 120ml but i went to get some from an air cond guy and he said only needs about 25ml and thats all he gave me. so does anyone know for sure how much they need? should i go get some more or will that be ok?
