You're right. How strange. The computer sort of froze its internet connection sometime before or right when I clicked the 'submit' button. Somehow this resulted in an empty thread lol!

Anyway the question I had was is it hard to get rid of the whole towing sub-frame thing that goes right back under the car? What do you need, I haven't had a good look - just a nice big breaker and some sockets? Or is there more to it?

    Cheers

No, thats about it. Two bolts at the front of the boot, four bolts through the floor and two bolts behind the bumper.

Do I need to do anything about the holes that will presumably be left in the floor when those bolts come out? Just put the bolts back or something?

    Thanks mate

Fill them in with a bit of silicone. Or you could bolt the plates back in.

Big breaker bar, and a couple of strong sockets can't go wrong. Worked for me.

Then I went to bunnings, picked up a couple of packets of cheap round rubber grommets, and used them to fill in the holes. Perfect fits, too

I've had to re-assemble the towing gear to move house a few months ago, and it only took about fifteen minutes to get the gear fitted properly, and another ten minutes at the end of the day to disassemble it all. After you do it once, it's too easy

I just left my holes in the boot, carpet covered it up nicely, can act as a drainage hole

Thanks for the responses guys, you've convinced me to hurry up and get this thing off. Is it easy to do with the rear bar still on? Mine's fibreglass, and sits hell low. Might just jack it up at work and do it all while on stands...

Depends on the brand, some have to have the rear bumper removed.

Yeah true that. Savage, is yours the type with the metal pole under the fuel tank, or the self-contained syle with only the flat plate in the boot?

yep, mine has 3 bolts that go through the rear panel under the bumper. the brace inside the boot is also made from plate steel, looks much stronger then the standard holden towbar setup. probably weights a lot more too

Mine has the metal bar going under the tank. Is that still easy or do I take off the rear bar?
