    Default vp v6 auto

hello i need to ask this now because im getting the car ready to go to mt barker from kadina, what causes the gearbox to go clunk in the vp auto v6, because my vps auto gearbox goes clunk when you put it in any foward gear. doesnt always do it though in the morning when you first start it it doesnt do it but in the afternoon when its warmed up it does it. does anyone know why.

ill get my uncle to look at it but its got fluid and it sounds like its comming from the auto unless im wrong as i said it clunks when you put it in both ds, 2nd or first but it still changes gears fine

as per previous post what did you say causes bearing noises. its worse when you first start the car in the morning then it goes away a little bu its still there, the engine runs ok and has some power but will it make it to mt barker from kadinia plus some driving up there then back again, ill be towing as well about 1/2-3/4 tonne of gear

Is this only when you engage drive? It goes clang into drive hard and sounds ****, But after that it's perfect drives fine???..
If yes my mums VP does it also, It's had new Auto and Tailshaft, The diff has slight play when going into drive it seems to spin a touch more and clonk in rather then go in smoothly, But once in drive it drives fine no banging more old age i say. You think when you here it that it's the Auto because it sends the noise and feeling up the middle of the car, But it's the diff.

And if this is not it See Mechanic and ask them when the car is fully warm.

It's not up to me but i did learn a lesson once, I had a shifty Auto that had a shudder in it, I drove to Cobdin and on the way up i lost drive it left me with only 2 gears, Honest i wouldn't risk it without seeing someone first.

what causes the bearing noise that you can hear sitting in the car taking off then going away once speed reaches is it the auto, engine or is it the diff because im interested as the engine still has plenty of power cars done nearly 264000kms

Must have just missed you with my reply today to your other thread. Try the engine mounts for the thump also. It may be that the 'box is getting tired though, in which case do you want to spend money on an overhaul or live with it 'til it dies (which might be quite a while, if you are lucky)?
