hi.
just wondedring what people think about using a cold cathode tube from a scanner to use as a dash light (behind the cluster)
i am thinkin it should work well as they are extra bright and about 6 inches long.
has anyone done this type of thing before?.
cheers
ps... if anyone happens to have a old reptile heating pad i could buy.. i lost 2 baby ratties last night due to alarm not getting me up to change hot water bottle.
That would give a long strip of light, and not necessarily light up the top and bottom areas of the cluster. Perhaps if you had 2 or 3, then it may work...
true.. i was thinking using say alum foil as a reflector.. i mayu try it with my spare one and post pictures so people can either say "good idea" or "you need to smash a pumpkin on your head and drink less coffee"
I'd be inclined to suggest the solution involving less coffee and more pumpkin. I think your best bet would be to replace your factory illumination with white stuff of the same varietyThat would be more likely to yield the desired effect - with the added benefit of not burning your retina at 4am during direct eye contact. I'm not sure if that beautiful factory green hue is courtesy of green bulbs, or green filters... but either way there's going to be something you can do about it

as in computer scanner? if so that would be just awesome because they are heaps bright and pure white light![]()
you may be right..
yeah i have used them in case mods and as a desk lamp before..
they are very bright.. but very very fragile..
Yeah, if you ask me - cold cathodes are best left for ornamental computer lighting![]()
