i wana put a pod filter on my VQ 5ltr, just wondering if anyone can giv me a quick run down on how to do it (i searched but cant find anything, just pod vs pannel arguments).. so yeh just wot do i need, besides a pod, and best way 2 attatch it.... pics would b good...
and please, i dont care about anyones oppinions on pods and i dont want a k&n panel filter insted...
cheers!
don worry mate, i used a pod in my vq and i never had any probs with it and never overheated, to me it felt like it revved smotther and nicer if ya know what i mean.
all ya need to do is get a bit of piping to fit the diameter of the piping and clamp it in the middle between the pod and the piping, i got one from autobarn for bout $12
theres a pic but its not too clear

the pod would work best if it was enclosed away from engine heat. but if you wanted you could just bolt it straight onto the TB if it doesn't foul on anything else around the TB.
if you look at my ride (link in sig) you will see how i've fitted my pod, although it's for a V6 you will be able to see how it would work with the V8 also just by cutting the hole in the correct place to suit the V8 intake placement

yep its pretty easy just did mine today, just like odyssey said just get abit of piping to fit the pod n a clamp
like i said, ive never had a problem with heat while using a pod, my needle on the temp gauge stayed in the excact same position b4 and after i put it on and to me it felt better to drive.
also i would not recomend attatching it right to the throttle body as that would be too close to the engine, just attatch it to the piping that is there

so i can just use the pipe thats running from the tb to the airbox, but jus shorten it a bit and clamp the pod on? do u need an adaptor or anything to attatch the pod?
also does this affect the air flow meter?? do u have 2 relocate it or anything??
cheers!
no need to to shorten the piping just disconnect from the air box and use a bit of pipe that will fit inside the piping from the tb and so the pod will clamp around it too.
thats all u need to do but if ya want reset the ecu when u put pod on otherwise just drive for a few days and the ecu will set itself to the pod

i'm not talking about the engine overheating, i'm talking about the pod sucking hot air from inside the engine bay, feeding it cold air only from an external source is much better then hot air from under the bonnet for power making purposes. cold air is more dense, carries more O2 and hence makes more power. you never noticed how on a nice cool crisp early morning your car seems to run just a little better???
there's a reason why racing outfits spend many hours and $$$ on getting a good cia setup when that last HP is sought after. there's also a good reason why all the perforamce shops ditch the standard intake for an OTRCIA, cause it makes power

I know you didn't want to hear open pods are no good but I just think it gives 304's a bad name with the Ford people when there is some running around the streets going slower than the V6. You can buy elbows to mount pods, they have a leg that screws into the holes where the airbox screwed into. There was one on my car when I bought it but there was a quite noticable power increase once I threw it away, there's alot of exhaust pipes and alot of engine in the V8 bay and it gets real hot
yeh and that is a fair enough argument but what iam trying to say is when i put the pod on my 5ltr it felt a whole lot better and more responsive to me.
i even after a few months put the original box bak on with a cai setup and ran it like that for bout a month but i didnt like it cos it felt too restrictive so what i ended up doing is keeping the cai setup and the bottom of the box on there and put the pod bak on but having the pod sitting right in the box so it was still getting the cold air from cai setup.
everyone likes their own setup and thats what worked best for me

ey
just finished my setup 2day looks pretty gd n sounds gd too, took it for a drive 2day so far so good, also feels a tad more responsive
