Lightbulb what prep is needed to paint my vp?

I need a general how-to, to prep my vp for a paint job. i know the prep is crucial therefore i want to get it right. The joint where im getting it painted, only paints with 2-pack paint. Im no genious about painting. Therefor i don't know what paint i will need to buy to supply it to the painter. i got a quote for 600-700$ to paint it.

    So my question is.

What steps in prep would i need to take? Take doors off, sand them, and entire body of car. take badges off. Prime it and sand again till smooth? Do i leave the doors off for the painter? and take my car there on a trailer?

Do i need to buy two-pack white paint, and thinners? and hardener? or a clear coat? if so how many litres?

Thanks guys. any help would be sweet.

1stly, you dont need 2 threads about the same thread.

2ndly, if you have no idea about prepping, which is the most important thing bar runs and overspary, practise on something else.

Basically, it needs stripping, then sanding, body filler, sand, bog, sand, maybe more bog, sand, (body should now be dead straight) primer.

AFAIK, you dont sand primers as the point is to provide a surface to stick too.

You dont put clear coat on 2pak white as it will turn cream....

    aZk.

okay, i've been doing some reading.

Take everything i can possibly off. Boot garnish, lights, badges, outside trims, bumpers and mirrors.

    Sand down to bear metal.
    bog to make straight.
    Sand.
Mask up the windows and other **** i don't want primed.
    Coat of primer.
Wet sand with a very light grit to make it extremely smooth.
    Possibly another coat of Primer
    And Wet sand.

Then i should tow it to the paintshop and give them the paint and let them do the rest.

    My question is.

Do i go basecoat 2pack + hardener + thiners 2:1:0.5 or there is another 2pack paint, where you only add thiners.

And if you add clear to white as i've been told it obviously goes cream. Does that mean it makes ferrari red go dull? Should i be using clear coat for the base 2pack? or other? :S!

ya don't need to go back to metal. unless the paint is pealing. leave the paint on there. 700 sounds a bit pricey.
i have never heard of white going creamy once painted with clear. but i could be wrong.
also. i don't know about not sanding primer. the paint will stick if it is sanded.
a fella in the car club i am in. he does very good paint jobs. and he was telling me the paint he uses. it is all in the clear. he gets the body as good as he can get it. then paints the base coat. then if he sees any blemish's he fixes them. and them paints over those parts again with the base coat. then gives the hole lot a sand again. then paints clear over it. he has a dodge charger and the paint job is unreal on it. so he must be doing something right.
if your car is straight you will do it easy. but if you have never done bog work before it will take ya a bit. get yourself a speed file. they make life very easy.
also primer filler is good stuff. ya gotta put it on thick though and let it dry for a long time
