    Default RWC bill :(

Just got told what needs to be done to a potential car for it to be roadworthy, anyone care to enlighten me on how much parts and labor SHOULD cost? I'm aware there are things i can do myself, but id still like an opinion on everything.

Car: HSV Plus 6 1991 model.
    *Front brake pads need replacing
*Rear discs and brake pads need replacing
*All rear suspension bushes worn x8
*L/H/F brake hose cut to cord
    *Front crank pulley worn
    *Needs 2 front wiper blades

I'm going to call around tomorrow for quotes from local mechs to see what they say but any input would be appreciated.

front brakes, you can do yourself $100 for pads
rear discs and pads need repalcing, you can do yourself, $140 for a pair of disc's and once again $100 for pads (might be cheaper on pads for rear, not sure)
rear suspension parts, couple of hundred. it's atleast 250 for the kit if my memory servers me right.
lhf brake hose cut to cord, do both, left and right, will need new brake lines, $100 max id say.
front crank pully worn, aka harmonic ballancer, they are cheap as chips to buy, depending on series will depend if pully removal tool is needed. but its prob $200 for the hb (mine was 189 and it's a v6) tool is around the 60 mark.
wiper blades, the most expensive part $10 if ya lucky

i'm sure you will get away with it alot cheaper than that that would be the High end costs of parts.

Well thats why i started this thread, to try and get some costs and perspective as alot of guys on here would have done some of these things themselves and id love to know what they got, how much it cost and if they put it on themselves.

Answers on here will always vary... you're probably best off going into Repco or Bursons, and asking them yourself. They'll be helpful, and can give you a comparison of different brands and prices. Rear bushes are best to have done by a mechanic if you're not confident or don't have the tools - the rest you can DIY with a good Gregories or Haynes.

Oh, and just to help you sleep at night, here was my list for RWC when I bought my VP unreg The differrence was, I WANTED probably half these things to be changed anyway, so I was happy to buy a car with those bits broken. Bushes etc went to nolathane, all rotors and pads were changed, etc.

    rear disc rotors
    front brake pads
    power steering rack
    power steering pump
    panard bar rubbers
front and rear sway bar pin rubbers
    auto transmission mount
    rocker cover gaskets
    oil pressure switch
    tailshaft centre bearing
    rear upper control arm bushes
    rear lower control arm bushes
    inhibutor switch
    diff centre bearing
    heater switch
    rear light relays

How much did all that set you back? And how much of it did you do yourself? Ill definetely be having the Bushes done by a mechanic, the whole list of this car wasnt too bad for what i was expecting but i can handle some of it.

Like the front grill is lose and the drivers seat is worn, well i have replacement seats lined up and all that.

rear brake rotors <-- $120 DIY
front brake pads <-- $55 DIY
power steering rack <-- $100 installed
    power steering pump <-- $50
    panard bar rubbers <-- Cheap
front and rear sway bar pin rubbers <-- $45 for the Z-Type nolathane stuff
    auto transmission mount <- nfi
rocker cover gaskets <-- nfi (a lot of this was done labour-free)
oil pressure switch <-- $13 or something
tailshaft centre bearing <-- just got a whole new diff
rear upper control arm bushes <-- nolathane stuff
rear lower control arm bushes <-- nolathane stuff
inhibutor switch <-- not expensive... can't remember
    heater switch <-- ... pfff
    rear light relays <-- free?

But there was more stuff than that which I had done. That was what HAD to be done... I did other work. Spent around $800 all up.

On the bright side, at least you didn't spend THIS much on your car!

Nah this car has been garaged for a month or so in Pearcedale so it cant be that one, although theres 2 other Plus 6s running around the Morno Peninsula lately that ive noticed.

And Morton the suggestion to call Repco was great they had some of the stuff i needed for pretty decent prices, especially considering the same items were marked up a fair bit at Autobarn.
