    Default Fog light switch

    Hey all,

I know this has probably been asked before, so don't get angry at me!

Did the VN/VP's have a fog light switch? Obviously only on the calais.

I've installed fog lights on my car, but i'm not sure where I want a switch. Just thought if they had a genuine one, I would install that.

    Cheers,

    Sam

Yeah VN's had a fog light switch but it was on the SS, not the Calais.

There are 2 plugs behind the centre console area where the Air Con switch is for rear wipers and washers in the wagons. Use one of those 2 plugs, there are 2 wires for the light in the button, leave those attached (you will see the same 2 wires on all 3 plugs for air con, rear wipers, rear washers... Leave those 2) and cut the rest.... Then just join up the positive and negative wires from the fog lights to two of the other wires. A gregories manual will tell you which wires are what so I would buy one of those, it will be in the wiring diagrams.

As for the actual switch, they can be got brand new from Holdens for about $15.

I checked out the spot you were talking about, there's no wiring there. Are you sure there would be on an exec?

Also, does anyone happen to have a picture of what the fog light switch looks like?

    Much appreciated.

There are plugs there, they should be tucked away, hidden like. Follow the wiring for the AC switch back and see if theres anything else back there.

Picture below... Next to the A/C switch:

Heres a pic of the three plugs circled.. I didn't come across mine until I had to run some new RCA's to my old CD player and found them taped up hidden towards the back.

Heres a pic of them out, you can see they all run into the same section in the loom (where the yellow circle is)... So by following the wiring for the A/C plug back you should be able to find it:

Ok, got my fog light switch yesterday ($20 from Holden.) Had a look for the wiring/plug, but couldn't find it anywhere. I had a look in my workshop manual, and it has nothing about fog lights...

Does anyone know about the wiring for the fog light...

    Cheers,
    Sam

The wiring is not for fog lights, its for rear wiper or rear washers for the wagons. Only the SS had the actual fog light wiring afaik. But the plug for the rear washers and wipers fit into the back of the fog light switch.

If you have a Gregories manual the wiring diagram is on page 236 (Wiring diagram for the rear demister, front and rear wipers, instruments, instrument illumination and trip computer) and are listed as number 13 and 17. Compare the wiring between the two or against the A/C switch listed as 31 on the diagram on page 232. Find the 2 wires that are the same colour on all 3 plugs which is the wiring the lamp/light in the switch. Leave those wires, cut the rest. Use 2 of the others and solder or crimp them to the positive and negative wires for the fog lights. Don't forget to use electrical tape to cover th ends of the other wires that you've cut. If ya don't have a Gregories manual i'd buy one.

Other than that, you have another option for the switch. Go to a wreckers and grab an A/C switch plug which will be right there and you don't have to look for.

Cut all wires with enough room to strip and solder or crimp other wires to.

Once again, find the two wires that are for the actual light in the switch. A positive and negative. Simply connect those two wires to the same two wires on your current A/C switch. This will get the light working. Next, use any 2 of the other wires and connect those to the positive and negative for the Fog lights and tape up any remaining cut wires. It will now all work fine.

As a note, if you ONLY have the fog lights, no wiring came with them.. Purchase a fog light wiring kit from Motoquipe or the likes. It will come with a fuse and a relay that all easily connects to the fog lights and run the positive and negative wiring through the firewall behind the centre console and connect it up to the wires on the fog light switch.

Thanks for that mate. I'll head down to the wreckers today.

Don't have a gregories, have a Haynes, but it's useless. I'll have to get a gregories, while I'm out.

    Cheers,

I know, i've had arguments with that seller cause he is ripping people off.

Lots of people turn straight to ebay for things like this.. Switches, Exhausts, Cold Air Intakes... When they are cheaper BRAND new from the local Holden Dealer.

Ok, well wreckers wouldn't give me an A/C plug with any wiring on it, so I've just wired the switch temporarily for now. All works well. Wired in the relay too, so the fog lights can only be turned on when the head lights are on. Thanks for the help everyone
