Was out last night, went to maccas..they ****ed the order up so I had to park up while my gf raise hell in maccas. anyways i turned the car off while waiting, when i went to start up to go the car wouldnt even start and was making noises like the battery was dead..the car was only off for about 2 mins and it wouldnt turn over. I thought the starter motor was somehow gone cos my lights worked but nothing else. I called someone and we jump started it in about 8 mins of charging and i went home, left it for a while and now its working today.
Anyway my battery is too weak for my car? ive had this same battery since i bought the car the battery sign always comes up when the car dies on me when im driving. Ive been told by a mechanic my battery is fine but i dont reckon thats the case obviously.
So really what battery is best suited for a v6?
thanks
So long as it meets (or exceeds) the minimum CCA's, then really any battery is fine. Batteries do not last for ever, if you have had this one in the car for a while it is probably time to get a fresh one. Get it load tested to confirm if it is any good. Does this happen often if the car is warm, and you shut it down, and try and restart it soon afterwards?
Wouldn't hurt to run a multimetre over your alternator too, see what it's output is like.
if ur battery sign is coming up it could mostly mean that ur alternator is on its way out... this has happend to me when the sign came up if i turnd the car off i wudnt be able to start it casue the battery wud b dead because it was getting no charge back and draining it.... once i changed my alternator i havet had a problem since, so go to the wreckers buy another 1 and c how that goes m8
I would be checking the positive cable on the starter motor and the solenoid cap. Make sure they are tight. If the cap is loose, time for a new solenoid.
i wouls say weak alternator good to hold just enough charge solinoid inside on the blink but yeah just another guess get your multi meter out andsee what you come up with
Batteries need good connections. I once was asked to fix a problem with a guys battery. He opened the hood, hit the starter and a little fountain of green goo spurted out of the positive battery connector about a foot into the air. Needless to say the car did not start. Removed the terminals, cleaned both terminals and posts and all good.
You may be surprised to find the battery has failed. I had a similar issue in my company pov pak VZ wagon. I do around 200 kays per day, so there is no issue with the battery charging. I had a similar incident to you, car was running and starting fine, then it wouldnt start. Holden Assist sent the NRMA who Jumper started the car and metered the Alternator for output. All was good, so I was on my way. The car lasted the rest of the day, and the next morning starting fine. Then it wouldnt start again. The battery was replaced, and it has been fine since.
I had a simular problem. My battery light was constantly coming on and this was at night. My lights were very dim and when the battery light went off the lights beamed. Now before this every car start within this hour was getting harder and harder.
i thought the battery terminal was loose or something cause the battery light was jumping around alot with bumps and so on. Nope, tight as a 12 year old.
The cable for the altinater had snapped off the battery terminal! hahaha a bit ot electrical tape and she is as good as new! lol, dont try it my way though...
