hi
i think my rotors may need replacing in the coming months, are there any possible mods? like using VT rotors instead of VN ones?
i saw a VR for sale that has VT rotors and callipers.
i have a 89 VN Sedan v6
Thanks
You cant just use the rotors, you need hub adaptors, calipers, brake pads and new brake lines.
hrmmm sounds like a mission, i guess ill just replace with VN ones
how much would it cost to do the vt conversion?..parts wise
Have a look at this:
VT COMMODORE BIG BRAKE CONVERSION VB VC VH VK VL VN VP - eBay VB, VC, VH, VK, VL, Holden, Car Parts, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 25-Nov-07 23:30:23 AEDST)
If you can do the work yourself, it really wont be much more expensive then the initial purchase price.
just get some slotted dont waste $800 on that **** when slotted cost fcuk all and work better
1994 Holden VR Acclaim Ecotec V6
1992 Holden VP Berlina S2 retro fitted with VS Acclaim Interior
how can you justify that just slotted rotors work better? all slotted rotors do is provide better heat dispersion/reduce brake fade. The VT brake upgrade gives larger diameter rotors (296mm) but more importantly twin piston calipers. With potential for more improvement with a 1" master cylinder...
compared to stock vn v6 (271mm) v8/fe2 (289mm) single piston caliper jobs, theres no way just slotted rotors are going to match up to that.
its not a waste at all, the vt upgrade kits are the best and cheapest way to get gooood brakes, crappy single piston calipers are useless on such a large car.

Which is exactly what I have in my SS. My Vp Exec has standard brakes, and after driving the SS, it feels like im not going to stop.
I put slotted rotors initially on my SS, as the standard rotors had more lip then a smartarse 13 year old. It made no difference. Within 2 weeks I put the Vt upgrade on, and It is one of the best things Ive done to the car

price and pictures? is that a six piston caliper? and do rda do anything for the back? actually looking at getting them in at work, just gotta find time to call them
Yeah, I must say, I got top of the line Bendix brake pads and new standard rotors all round on my VN V6 and the brakes still felt BAD. Once I stepped into my GTS which has 330mm rotors and twin piston calipars on the front I can say there is a much better braking potential, Once I change the fluid and all rotors and brake pads she will be even better. VT upgrade is essential in GO FAST VN/P's.
The rears are pretty much the same on all the Commodores, and since they only do about 30% of the braking, it's not necessary to go much beyond putting decent pads and slotted rotors on the back. Upgrading the front though is a very good idea if you want good stopping ability.

Guys - On a related note: I'm looking at some options for my car, and have been trawling through various threads on here but I'm very confused....
I'm not too sure what I have on the car, to start with! It's totally original, and started out as:
- VP Calais Series 1 (built in August 1992, chassis prior to L570556)
- V6
- FE2
- ABS/IRS
- LSD
(not sure if there's anything else relevant?)
Now from reading the other threads I am under the impression that the FE2 pack included the larger 290mm rotors on the front...or was that only on *VN*/V6+FE2?
Also...the ABS fitment seems to indicate that I may need different rotors?
On the back I assume I have 279mm rotors.
I am looking at the DBA and the AC/Delco catalogues and they're also a bit confusing, but the part numbers that MAY be applicable are:
F: 015 or 017 or 027
R: 026 (no confusion there)
Can anyone confirm that I am on the right track so far?
Now...if I am right:
Is there a huge gain to be had by going to the VT upgrade kits -given that the rotor size is already 290 and the VT only bumps that to 296?? Or would I be just as well off if I simply fit slotted DBA rotors and (perhaps) the VT style twin-piston calipers? Is that even possible?!?
I definitely need new rotors/pads real soon, so if I'm going to upgrade the calipers I may as well do it before I buy the new rotors...whichever they turn out to be.
Cheers!
Andrew
I had new pads and slotted/drilled rotors all round on my SS before going 330mm. The difference is there but not alot compared to the vt upgrade which, a mate had on his vn.
The pad area on the vt calipers are also bigger compared to the standard calipers dont just look at the size of the rotors. Your better off goin the vt upgrade with slotted rotors and braided lines with a 1" master. If you dont drive the car very hard then i wouldnt worry about the slotted rotors.
i spoke to a guy in a shop who said theres to types of rotors 270mm and 290mm, any ideas which one is the correct one
Depends on your particular model. V8's and V6 with FE2 have the 289mm, most others have 270mm. Yours being and exec, I would say it has the 270mm.
Also if your calipers are the finned type that indicates the larger 290mm rotors
also get the police spec pads or similar, they have a much larger surface area then the standard VT pads, probably as much as 30% more friction material
