Driving around today with the air conditioning on and noticed one or two things. First, there is a noise (whistle) coming from somewhere in the centre console (just a guess, I wasn't inclined to stick my head under at highway speed). Cycles with the thermostat.
Next, when stopped (e.g. at lights), the car surges. Feels just like someone tapped the car in the rear with their bumper. Nearly jumped out a couple of times to give them a piece of mind until I realised that it was tied up with the Air-con. When the air-con cycles is when it happens.
There is also another noise, fluttering low pitched noise but I think this is coming from the blower.
Any ideas on how to stop the surges?
1. have you checked to make sure ALL the hoses in the back of the a/c control panel is connected,
2. clean out the fan behind the passenger side of the dash[behind the glove box] for any debris,
3. the surges you talk of can be from the a/c compressor kickin in and out, ckeck the whole system out by an expert, it can be seizing up and releasing all of a sudden,
my vp wag did the same as what you say.
Could it be the idle speed being set too high? I am having an argument now with my mechanic who maintains that my tachometer is reading fast, not the idle speed is fast. The idle is 1200 rpm by the tachometer. But it sounds like the revs are high.
