Just bought one, looking for some bits and pieces to finish it off and was hoping people could help me find parts or lend advice.
1. The rear garnish on the VPs is the reddish/burgandy colour, does anyone know where i can get one in good nick thats NOT eBay?
2. Been told the headlights arent bright enough, is that a common VN/VP thing? Do i need to replace the whole lights or just the globe?
3. The interior and exterior door handles are plastic and ive been told they break. Any idea how easy it is to put in the metal ones, and where to get the metal ones from?
4. The arial is a manual. If i buy an electric one, from say Repco or Autobarn, will it go straight in? Is it easier just to get one from a wreckers? What model VN/VP or VR/VS, assuming they are the same, would i get an elec arial from?
5. Finally the car has central locking but not remote locking, does anywhere do a conversion or can i do it myself? Do conversion kits for that even exist?
Many many thanks to anyone who can answer any of the above with good answers or prices or locations or references!
1. wreckers/someone who is wrecking a VP.
2. havnt heard that before, seem fine to me. but have heard that better globes make a fair difference.
3. never have had a problem of one breaking. but if you plan to change them, give yourself a weekend to do it because the door handle assembly is fiddly as hell.
4. get one from repco/autobarn. better condition than a used one and prob cheaper than a genuine new one.
5. pretty sure you will need an after market setup. unless some models had it?

azzfox pretty much summed it up but for 3, they come of vr-vs's..... interior handles i have never had a problem with but exterior, definitely get the vr-vs ones.. ive broke a couple of them...
Aftermarket remote locking will set you back about $80 to $90 bucks. Get one that runs off the original central locking so, you don't have to rip the door panels off.
1. A wrecker will be you best option
2. If you have problems, install better globes, they can make a real difference
3. The interior ones will be fine, exterior ones can be a problem. You can pick metal ones up at a wrecker. Installing them isn't to hard, its just really annoying and fiddly.
4. Buy a new one from an automotive store, it shouldn't be to expensive
5. Buy an after market set up from an automotive store or somewhere like strathfield, they are fairly cheap now days and reasonably easy to install.
1) What's wrong with eBay, they always have those burgundy garnishes for sale...otherwise you can have mine for say...$150 :P
2) The headlight's can fade over time, especially if they get a lot of sun, the foil in the headlights tarnish. Aftermarket headlights are relatively cheap, and give a much brighter light.
3) lol as if they break :P but if you want uber chrome ones, i found them on eBay once, only $250....
4) New electrical aerials are around $120 for the VP, and I was charged another $120 odd for installation. It's pretty hard to do yourself
5) nfi :P
Funny enough i go with a friend to Harvey Wreckers in Langwarrin to help her find parts and i find, in perfect condition, the back Garnish for cheap.
Fixed the arial too and a mate who is a mech has organised the headlights, so now all im hunting for is some VS Door Pods, VR/VS external door handles and my car is done!
Thanks to everyone for your suggestions so far they have been a big help.![]()
