hi guys i am wondering if anyone has put a dash pad from a VR VS into a VN or in my case a VG ute . What did you have to change behind the dash if any thing . Thanks
check out forums on the street commodores site under faq and you will find some detailed instructions here http://forum.****************.com.au....php?t=8433446
im actually doing it atm and its not a simple changeover....im tackling the demister vents problem which again isnt straight forward

i would imagine it to be a mission, you'll need to get VR door cards because the VR has vents on the doors unlike the VN.
personally i really see the point, but you can do what ever you want.
have done 90% of the conversion - the dash is the easy part - the wiring is a bitch -
still got windscreeen wipers and headlights to do on a mates Vn commo - is a lot of buggering around and blowing fuses to make work!!!!!!
its really not that hard... im sorry but i have done it and its not that complicated...
few niggling issues but really nothing that difficult. Demister vent is the hardest part, so i didnt bother haha. points for markover in trying to get it to work.
Few custom looms aad to be made but car wiring is easy
aZK.
i guess we allhave our strengths and weaknesses - id love to know how to get the headlights a happenin lol - wipers dont look that hard just leavin them till last
i have a vs interior in my vn it aint worth the ****ing around theres about 2800 wires behine the dasgh u have to conect all the wiring up it isnt a simple pull out unclip job then u need the dopor trims or it wont line up properly and then u need to cahnge the cluster..which invlve pulling out the actual speedo ect cause the wire are different there alot of screwing around
She got her looks form her daddy..hes a really bad plastic surgeon
Rides: vn wagon, vl manual soon to be turbo
heres the wiper circuit http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/...-wiper-mod.jpg it uses the little board that is on top of the main board on a vn/p lefthand switchblock

Geeze Ive had some drama with the demister vents ...Started out with the vn vents and have been trimming them down to get them to fit...problem is the vn vents slots point towards the windscreen but the vs ones point away so you have to cut slots into the opposite side of the valley where the vs vents are and plug the old ones up.
Also the dash plastic behind the cluster wont let you get the angle you need so you have to keep trimming one side of the vn vents down. Its been done before so I will get it.
The actual face vents in the middle of the dash seem to be in a different position too but that is another job.

Got some picts of what it looks like with the demister vents installed...sikaflex is your friend ....first picture is the dash showing the oval vs demister holes ...these will be blanked over (as you can see in the third picture )to direct air up to the windscreen as air now enters from the opposite side with the vn demister vents installed.

The demister vents are a drama and have to be tackled first after you take your old vn dash out.You have to cut the vents out of the old dash and leave the old dash as a lot of broken cut up pieces which doesnt really matter as you are going to throw it away anyway. You need to cut a slot along the opposite side of where the original vs vents are in the vs dashpad metal work so the vn vents work and trim everything down on the vn vents so its absolutely bare as its a pretty tight fit.

Like I said above the demister vents are the first major hurdle. You have to cut them out of your old vn dash and trim them to a minimum so they fit in...you can carefully even use some heat (heat gun or gas bottle)to get the plastic of the vents to move to where you want.Cut 2 long slots in the steel valley from the base of the valley about 30 mm towards the top but leave the area in tact around the central mounting screw hole in the steel ...sikaflex is a essential item. When you have the vents so they will fit ,mount the dashpad on the car with the vents in position and sikaflex them to the pad and let dry. If you are happy with it take it all out and glue/seal everything up with sikaflex.
The facia vents dont line up either with conversion if you use a vn heater box too so you have to modify the vr facia duct outlet to get it to fit.
First picture is the vr facia vent with oval duct cut and moved over 12mm towards passenger side and sikaflexed up...second picture is vs dash installed showing problem....you will have to make a duct to connect the oval vr vent duct to mate up to the rectangular vn outlet duct also.
Last picture is how it looks at the moment.

so why didn't you use a VS heater core and air con set up I'm thinking of doing the same conversion but using complete VS interior including all the heater aircon bits. just wanted to see if it can be done and if its easier
youll need a VS firewall then too... HVAC box wont bolt up to the VN firewall...
now your getting into not worth the effort catagory!
aZk.
yeah damn looks like a case of too ****** hard
I have finished the job now ..it was worth it it has changed the whole car and it cost me 100 bux....I didnt change the heater box ..didnt even upset the air conn(r12 refig)and the plastic bends with a bit of heat ...you just need patience..it will work out...it isnt TOO hard

hi there i know this is an old post but i was wondering if anyone could give me instructions on how to remove the dash and heater box out of a vn. i have smashed mine and need to replace the whole thing. any help is much appreciated. thanks
Hey Guys ... old thread dug up now ... sorry
Ive just done this conversion on my 1997 VS s2 Exec Wagon and everything works fine like it should ...
BUT ... i have the handbrake warning chime constantly going off every minute or two ... how do i stop this, can i bridge a wire out and not use or, or any one know how to wire it up, or anything ....
Thanks in advance guys
Dash pad conversion or level 3 Calais cluster convesion?
If it's the handbrake warning chime on a level 3 conversion - it's still an unsolved problem. Let me know what cluster you have in the car (number on the top of the lens) and see if it matches the car. The last car this happend to me on was a VS ute. every time he drove off it chimed away.
Only way to stop it for now is to remove the chime from the cluster.
White 05 V6 VZ Executive - Thrashed Ex Telstra car
and 3 Dangerous non ABS VN's
Ive done both dash pad and VS V6 Level 3 cluster conversion ... all using my stand Level 1 harness and patched it ... cluster part number is 92053363
Where is the chime ???
I would rather leave it if possible ... as i have a statesman aswell and the chime is used for multiple functions ... high temp, handbrake, ect
the chime is in the cluster just take off the front clear cover and rip it out (just a little round aliminium can with 2 pins as connectors ) all the warning lights still work
