i see, i was told the vr one can go with minor alterations if i read the numbers but i had a look at myne and it didnt make much sence to me, it did mention number 6 for tachomoter on the back even though i dont have one i dono wether that means anything, i was told by somone i know that it can be done with alterations because theve put a vs cluster into a vk, but that it should be much easier to do in a vn

You just can't replace the gauges. The printed circuit board (plastic) is different between the level 1 and level 2 dashes. A VP cluster fits except you have to change the warning lights on the right hand side with the ones from the VN cluster, otherwise your indicator, park brake etc are shown incorrectly.

if the so called printed circut board is different between level one and level two then why does my level one cluster say on the circut board "5 tacho IGN" and "6 tacho SIG"

I've made a l2 cluster with a level1 cluster you will see on the inside the holes are there for tacho and that but they have to be drilled out more. Also if you have a good look at the plastic on the back of the l1 cluster the round copper things are there where the bolts go through you just have to carefuly scratch the paint if them.I know this i i made a l2 cluster out of a l1 cluster only last week.

would it be easier to swap the loom to a calais one?
would the calais loom plug into the berlina loom?
i am thinking about just swapping for a calais loom and dash.
    might be easier.
i have a 5inch tacho with over excessive blinding shift light
but its too big and ricy for a commo.

Dont put the VR one in. VN and VP can be swaped, but only level 1 and 2.
VR/VS is different and can only be swaped betewwen the 2 models. Fittng level dash needs abit of work.

you have to use the vn shell bit and the vr gauges. just put the gauges in the vn one it will work fine mine did. you can even use a level 1 vn cluster to do the swap. i can give more details if you want.

you can just replace the guages with the vr ones the vn level 1 clusters come with the tacho pcb(printed circuit board) in them mine did anyway.

I put a VS cluster into a VN. You have to take the plastic circuit off the back of the new cluster and replace it with the circuit from the old cluster (the pin holes are the same, but the wires go to different places). I upgraded a Level 1 to a Level 2 cluster this way.
