    Default vp auto problem

My brothers car decided to play up today. It was running happily at 100 km/h when suddenly it began to freewheel and lost drive. After it stopped tried to drive it and it has reverse and drive and takes off like normal but wont change into 2nd at all.
The trans was rebuilt about a year and 20k ago and it was goin great up till now.
The oil has a definate brownish look to it so I assume it must have friction material in it but it has the right amount.
Anyone had a similar problem or have any experience like this...I know it probably will end up ay the auto trans blokes but it seems strange for it to have the brownish material in the oil when its only done 20k since the rebuild.

may be a long shot but check the kickdown cable it may be brocken or faulty but id say the trans is f&*#ed....warrenty time (if no warrenty take it back and demand them to fix it!!)

From looking at the factory book I have ,the symptoms point towards the brake band (the only band in the box)that operates in 2nd and 4th and that would also agree with the excessive material in the oil...its in the front part of the box behind the pump...anybody with some automatic knowledge agree/disagree with me?
    The tv cable is good.

Might be on to something...oil is a pinkish colour and the gritty stuff is the stuff in the radiator mixing with the auto oil...maybe not a total rebuild needed...fingers crossed
Turns out the cooler feed thru the radiator has a pinhole ...letting coolant into the oil.
My brother hasnt put much coolant thru the radiator either and the gitty stuff is the brown muck you see that is the rust from the engine...might have contributed to the pinhole too.

well, i was told once water in the trans = burns cluctches

i accidently boosted into my trans breather and blew the fkkkk out of the seals, lost oil pressure inside the box

and over the next 2-3 weeks burnt all the clutches inside the box, i burnt the fkkkk out of reverse backing into the driveway with the new trans in the boot hehehe.. didnt go backwards without 2 blokes pushing it after that.. smelt funny

id say dont **** with it
send it back to the trans shop (is it still under warranty?) and say FIIIIX IT

if its ****ed just slap a 2nd hander in it.. cost me $100 to swap mine

Problem solved....water in oil (oil lost its viscosity and has a pinky milky look) caused by crack in cooler pipe in radiator...new radiator..... sheared of the drive gear of the govenor thats why it had only 1st gear....and the bits were the old nylon gear in the sump.
Got a trans flush...new radiator , coolant...new oil ,governor, some switch it had broken inside as well and its goin fine..expensive for just water in the oil..thinking about putting on separate trans cooler out of a vs so it can never happen again.
If you have lost a fair bit of rad water (whole overflow bottle) in your car and it hasnt dropped it anywhere check your trans oil for this...easy check and from what Ive been told quite common.
