As the title says! Im getting sick of not having aircon, ive filled it up once and it leaked out within a week, it was cold but when I was using it all it did was squeel really loud.
I have recently rang up differnt places asking for prices for a new compressor and they have ranged from 700-1000$ I think I might take it down to a shop and get them to take a looksie, may just have a shagged seal of some sort, if its totaly dead then im gunna try and find a 2nd hand one because there is no way im buying a new one for those prices!
When getting a regas pay the extra dollars for the O rings. Cost me $150 for a regas and new o rings. The A/C has been very cold from that point on. I had paid $75 for just a regas only a few months before - but yep gas all leaked out in no time as the O ring was u s.
I'd try second hand compressor too - much cheaper option.

I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
might just be the clutch squealing, get one from a wreckers it's easy to change, and then get a refil, they have a little device that can sense leaks, so they will find it
it might jus be the cheaper option to get a second hand one. i picked up a a/c compresser for 80 bucks at the commodore wreckers jus been recon and new gas put in
Yeah but theres no guarantees with the s/hand unit. Sure you can take it back to the wreckers if it's no good, maybe, but who wants to go through all the trouble of fitting and re fitting the thing, not to mention the expense of re gassing every time. And to top it off how longs this unit going to last? How worn are the seals etc? I understand the expense factor. Just from experience and may i say due to lack of experience on my part i have fitted 2 compressors to my vt in 4 months, just trying to do it on the cheap! I was quoted $800 fitted back 6 months ago, this was a new unit. I balked at the prospect of such a cost. OK it's working nicely now but i have spent just on $1100 and i still only have a s/hand unit. When it comes to the cooling and air conditioning systems i will not buy anything but new from now on.
Ill just find one where the previous owner says that it was working...Can only tryIm booked in next friday to get my system looked over and see what the problem is.
I was told by Natrad that in his experience it's the O Rings/Washers that fail first! The ones on the compressor. Also I'm of the understanding that you should always replace the Receiver/Dryer when you replace the Compressor. Probably the TX Valve to. Some places won't give you warranty on the new or reconditioned compressor unless you replace them as well!
