ok driving along in my new VP wagon and the engine light keeps coming on
im guessing that means the engine manegment unit needs a service or to be replaced.what kind of cost am i looking at here, and is it a simple "plug and play" or do i have to get it retuned to the car if i replace it ?
Well I think the first thing you should do, is check for error codes. Search around, there's a thread on it somewhere already![]()

ratz, when you find the code, post it here - anyone here will tell you what it means![]()

with out any further info i'll be betting on O2 sensor :P
ok being a guy thats not to cluey with cars, bridgeing the computer with the paper clip and that, ill proberly blow the car up lmfao
when i bridge the wires...do i need to slice into the actual wires or just wrap the paper clip around the plastic surrounding the wire?
You bridge the white and black wires on the Assembly Line Diagnostic Link (ALDL), you dont have to slice into anything or wrap around anything, ill see if i can find some pics.
There are pictures in this post: Checking your Computer for Faults (VN - VP)
yup that clears it up thanks bill, ill get onto it when i get home from work today..thanks guys
ok if ive done it right and counted right its a code 44 which is Code 44 - Oxygen Sensor Lean (O2)
how do i fix this now ??
oxygen sensor might need replacing (or maybe even a clean). if it hasnt been replaced for a while it could have crap baked onto it covering it and giving a lean reading.
either that or the motor could be running lean for some reason.
will the oxygen sensor out of a VN go into a VP? ive got a VN here that i dont use so if the O2 sensor out of that fits ill put that in
$90?? wow!!! what about one fitting out of a VN though ?
yeah but its prob gonna fail again very soon, best bet, just get a new one.... then you wont have to worry for awhile.
aZk.
Come on, it's worth a try if it's free. If the VN is a series 2, late '91-, IDable by thermostat housing at the front of the engine, 3 individual coils as distinct from a single "coil pack", yep, O2 sensors are interchangeable . The only downside is that you don't know if that O2 sensor is good unless you can drive the VN. (Can you?)
It's also worth checking the engine wiring earths, particularly the one on the timing cover.
yup VN's drivable... im actually thinking of selling it or wrecking it dunno yet
its a series 1 though
try repco and get an after market 1 $45 new
