    Default Engine number location

Hi Just bought a Rodeo witha VP comodore motor in it and I have no idea where to look for the engine number. The Rego has a engine number of VH1088340 but I cant find this or any other number on the motor . Any help is apreciated.

Engine number is right for a V6.

It is on the front of the motor, below the water pump, on the LHS on the flat front face of the block.

Thanks I can see a number between the water pump and the pulley on the chank . But it looks like 25533496, is this a VP V6 engine number or a part number for the casting. Again any help is apreciated.

Sounds like a casting part number. The engine number is stamped in there, but more to the left, not between the 2 pulleys & it has to start with VH.... Oh - the number is vertically mounted too.

Also, you'd have to compare it with other motors of the era, but I reckon that engine number is too low to be a VP motor - I reckon it's a VN series 2.

VN series 2 motors & VP motors are near identical to each other. They have the thermostat housing (where the top radiator hose goes) on the front of the manifold.

Early VN V6s (up to part nov 1990 or thereabouts) had the thermostat in the back of the motor, and a long stainless pipe from the top radiator hose to the rear of the motor.

That's the easiest way to pick them, but there are heaps of other differences, both internal & external.
