Default Suggestions, tip on V6 Rebuild

Well i think the time is near for a Rebuild, she's gettin tired and starting to become very... sick...

iv been contemplating buying another engine next week or two from a mate and putting a rebuild kit through it.

iv got Genie Extractors, 2.5i Redback Ex, CAI, STD ECU CHIP, 5SPd man.

Engine is Non-Modified/rebuilt at all. and prob not in extremaly bad condition, my mate was stickin it in his HQ but decided to work the 308 in it.

anyone out there got any ideas or opinioins on what i should replace??

Probably get the heads cleaned up, wondering wether i should get the Boars cleaned out to a specific size then order the pistons/rings to suit??

to cam or not to cam??

get the crank ground before new bearings??

not looking to attempt to get 300000rwkw on $500, just a nice build that will keep her purring.. but obviously have some zing,

Been thinking about Supercharging it, but also concidering, decking the heads and pulling some compression into her and finding a cam to suit... but this could be the old holden 202,253,308 coming out in me... so there is another Qtn, to build NA or to build Supercharged.... any ideas, tips ro stories would be apreciated.

and NO im not going to put a 5lt in it.... so dont mention it. i will just buy a 5lt ss or somthing.... when i want another v8.

my tip is, dont take any shortcuts with anything, and take ur time, u dont wanna rush something and then later down the track find out that it was done dodgy and is now stuffd...
And on $500 i dont think u will be gettin acam or gettin the cam grounded, a cam from COME racin for a v6 is like $1000 and im not sure on how much groundin would cost...

But good luck and all the best

Tigh cams here in bris regrind yr cam for $150.00 or a new cam custom grind for $450.00.
you pull it out an put it in yrself.
crow do packages for about $1200.00, think it has a timing chain springs an a chip, but dont quote me on that, it could be closer to $1500.00 these days.
Few guys here in Bris in the performance shops recon crow is the best, but who knows.
A good valve grind would at least get it running nice again,,heh oh well thats my suggestions.

hope it helps a bit, I am actually doin a recon this year and will probably throw in a smallish street cam to keep it civil, but the bottom end on my engine is to rattly to consider valve train $$ without ensuring the rest will not go.

    maybe your engine is ok.

    cheers

its funny how expensive v6 cams are, compared to a custom grind v8 cam,

my 2c, start with a s2 block rather than s1, much nicer engine..

pick up a ACL Rebuild kit for $700? spend $1200-1500 on machining, then spend about $1000 on heads + cam and you wont really end up with alot,

the motors arnt that weak they will take alot of **** and if its nearly dead dump a 2ndhander in its alot of money to spend, you could drop a v8 in for the cost of rebuilding a 6

ifyour gonna get a cam get atleast a stage 2 or 3, the stage 1 cam you will be disappointed with. definitly up the CR, the standard 8.5 CR is way to low for a decent cam. even if you keep the stock cam raise the CR to maybe 9.5 and get it tuned to suit

increasing the CR will give a better torque curve..... makes it better to drive in the low to mid rpm range. it will also give a peak HP increase but it's hard to say how much 30tho will raise the CR so it's hard to say what the gain will be. raising the CR is not something i'd recommend to do by itself but seeing as your pulling the engine down anyways and are going to have some machining work done, shaving extra off the heads isn't that much extra really

i was in the proces of rebuilding my engine wich has now been left till after my cars registed and running proply and because the engine was in a pretty bad state like very warn bearings and cam bearings coming out and the cam warn but the bores were very good so im still going to rebuild it just later on. this is all due to the previous owner not servicing it and driving around with stuft head gaskets. i put a second hand engine in mine and have the old 1 stript down and waiting till i have the money and time to get it machined because of spun cam bearings after that im going to put a better cam in and a few other things, have ported the heads and manifold so yeh should be good im not looking at anything fancy just having a play with it as its my first car and dont want to waist too much money on it lol.

hope your rebuild goes better then mine
