what is generally serviced on the vn air con compressors? mines making a grinding noise loud as and i wanna get it gassed tonight.. just wondering if its a side affect of haveing no gas or if its a bearing or something
G'day
if it howls all the time i would say its the bearing in the clutch end,do a search there are a lot of previous posts re this.

nah read about whining noises not like that at al.. loud vibrating grinding noise
should be "no gas no go".If it has no gas or low gas then the compressor should not operate(safety feature) so my guess would be bearing/s
well it goes and theres no gas becuase i had it all apart when i crashed the thing, not an ounce of gas but it still goes, so good safety feature.. it sounds like an old diesle generator at the moment.. has to be something
well
If it goes as you say with no gas i would expect that its KANGAROO JACK,
the bearing behind the pulley runs all the time, mine made quite a bit of racket before i replaced it.So your saying that the centre of the compressor rotates as well, maybe when ya had ya bingle it got clobbered and is jammed,if ya disconnect the clutch wire and it still rotates then ya will know whats going on

ok if you can explain that to me in a how to way haha.. basically what your saying that if it was the bearing it would make a noise all the time? now its actually only doing it when its engaged.. it was working after the accident because i was using it to engage the thermo fan and it wasnt making this noise.. wheres this clutch wire
Ok this sounds expensive LOL,
the clutch wire is green and comes in just to the left of the water pump on the V8 and under the coil pack on the V6 and goes round under the rear of the comp, might be easier to cut it there and then put a joiner in it,trouble is if ya run it for any length of time with no gas in it the oil also wont travel around the system and so it runs the comp dry and well the rest is history.

ok so if i cut the wire what should happen? nothing right? that way ill no if its jammed.. im guessing ive just run it dry and this so called safety feature didnt kick in..
